BRIEF: Death and drowning... SUMMARY: The Loy's Station covered bridge was built around 1860 by the Loy family. The family owned the feed mill and post office at Loy's Station, which was a small community with a railroad station.
The original bridge was modified in 1929. New steel beams were installed to replace the original wooden beams and the lateral bracing under the wooden floor. The bridge was destroyed by arson in 1991. Volunteers restored the bridge using timbers salvaged from the old bridge.
During the Civil War the Union and Confederate Armies marched through Frederick and Thurmont on their way to Gettysburg and Antietam. Many small skirmishes took place around Frederick and Thurmont. The soldiers often camped near covered bridges for protective cover and usually water for their horses.
The covered bridges are reportedly haunted by the soldiers who died there and by people that drowned in the water below.
The bridge is located on Old Frederick Road, in Creagerstown. Members enjoy access to full details and far more info. |

SUMMARY: Opened in December 1862, Lincoln General was the largest of the military hospitals in the area built by the Army to take care of the Civil War casualties. It was located on Capitol Hill, 15 blocks east of the Capitol building. The hospital complex included 20 pavilions, arranged in two lines forming a V, and 25 tent wards, which provided altogether a bed capacity of 2,575. The kitchen and dining rooms were connected to the pavilions by means of a covered pathway. In addition to the headquarters (marked by the flag), there were officers quarters, quarters for Sisters who provided nursing service, barracks, guard house, separate quarters for contrabands, and service facilities such as water tank, laundry, barber shop, carpenter shop, stables and a morgue ("Dead House"). Like most other military hospitals, Lincoln General was taken down shortly after the Civil War. The area once occupied by Lincoln General is now a residental district. BRIEF: An old hotel filled with hauntings and mysteries is cast to the whims of history SUMMARY: One of many hauntings amongst illustrious history, legend holds that while two young male employees were fraternizing with women in the basement laundry room, a manager came around propelling the first man to dash out of sight into a waiting elevator. The second tried to follow but was somehow caught by the doors. Industrial types and early elevators lack the door sensors with which most people these days are familiar. The second man was crushed, by two unstoppable movements, and perished badly. The elevator area in the basement laundry is said to be haunted by this unlucky man's ghost: a faint apparition has reportedly been spotted, sometimes moving briskly toward the elevator. Sun 24 Aug | Charles Fort Birthday Gathering with Richard | We are planning an informal gathering of Washington area students of the Damned Data and their companions. The ongoing objective is to promote a sense of community among persons with interests in marginalized data and phenomena at the fringes of hard science and society. We welcome Charles Fort devotees, unconventional technologists, UFO buffs, inquirers into the paranormal, as well as students of conspiracies and the suppression of knowledge. It will be an opportunity to share interests with old acquaintances and to meet some new people with similar leanings towards the strange, the unusual, and the ignored.
Food and drink will be provided; if you feel a need to bring something, may we suggest it be a friend. Please, do pass along the invitation to any Charles Fort fans and other students of the anomalous that may not have been contacted directly.
We look forward to seeing you on Aug. 24. No reservation is necessary; however, a phone call or e-mail is always a welcome help for the planning. If you can't make it this year, consider sending along a note of greeting your friends who will be here.

"We wish to pursue the Truth no matter where it leads. But, to find the Truth we need imagination and skepticism, both. We will not be afraid to speculate, but we will be careful to distinguish speculation from fact." --Carl Sagan
"Death is the great Teacher, stern, cold, inexorable, irresistible; whom the collected might of the world cannot stay or ward off. The breath, that parting from the lips of King or beggar, scarcely stirs the hushed air, cannot be bought, or brought back for a moment, with the wealth of Empires. What a lesson is this, teaching our frailty and feebleness, and an Infinite Power beyond us! It is a fearful lesson, that never becomes familiar. It walks through the earth in dread mystery, and lays it hands upon all. It is a universal lesson, that is read everywhere and by all men. Its message comes every year and every day. The past years are crowded with its sad and solemn mementoes; and death's finger traces its handwriting upon the walls of every human habitation." --Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma
MISSION STATEMENT 2008-08
This unique website provides a safe haven for people who want to believe. We tag it paranormal nirvana or coming into the light --of knowledge, experience, harmony, understanding. Those looking for a "haunted" fix, a cheap thrill, or quick proof or disproof of anything paranormal should undoubtedly seek elsewhere.
We're about gathering and sharing information, insight, facts, personal experiences, history, thoughts, theories, techniques, ideas, pictures, stories, and anything else that might be pertinent, interesting or useful. Anything along those lines, within reason, is welcome, encouraged and most appreciated. Anything less will not grow or fly here.
Paranormal is highly personal and can be emotionally charged. Our purpose is not to convince anyone of anything, nor to provide a forum for debunking, nor to promulgate baloney and hogwash. It's simply to share information. The fine line that we seek and appreciate is somewhere in the hazy grey between the known and unknown, and it moves! We are interested in the quirks and missing pieces, but also the facts, and how everything that doesn't fit might be made to, or else how reality must be adapted. This can be delicate and complex, and therefore the atmosphere here is positive, open and enouraging.
Largely subjective and not necessarily measurable, clues are often tiny and barely perceptible, even to sensitives; information is often easily overlooked or misplaced and history forgotten; and different people bring widely various skills to the ongoing 'shared investigation'. Since it's challenging to keep track, gain coherence, and make sense of everything, we help empower interested parties.
History is often made in a moment; hauntings seem to happen over time. While nothing compares to a personal paranormal experience, the weight of many similar accounts from different people combined with history and fact can be compelling on its own. This is not truth by consensus but in probability, weighed with history and tempered by facts. Scattered pieces often mean more when considered together. This synthesis is what we're about: focusing the synergies of many bright minds and good efforts toward furthering the understanding of our past, present and future --particularly the paranormal aspects.

"Surveys, such as the one conducted in 1996 by Gallup of a nationally representative sample of Americans, continue to show a high degree of belief, interest and involvement in a variety of paranormal and religious related phenomena among the general population. For example, 48 percent believed in the possibility of extra-sensory perception (ESP), 45 percent believe that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) have already visited Earth, and 56 and 72 per cent believed in the reality of the devil and angels, respectively (Gallup, 1997). In fact, these numbers have actually gone up since the surveys first started (Gallup and Newport, 1991) and other surveys amongst university and college students have yielded similar results (e.g. Messer and Griggs, 1989). Perhaps due to the widespread existence of such beliefs, the investigation of personality correlates of paranormal and particularly religious belief has received considerable attention in recent years, but little attention was given to both simultaneously." --Chris Huntley, 2005 Ph.D. thesis, Correlation of Paranormal Beliefs, Religious Beliefs and Personality

"I've never even felt a moment of remorse, doubt, regret." --Dexter
4 years, 3 months, 29 days, 17 hours, 52 minutes, 24 seconds until the Mayan end of Age. December 21 2012 (11:11am GMT). The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11 UTC. --wikipedia .
