In 1989, two chemists announced that they produced nuclear reactions and thermal energy under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure using electrochemistry. They were Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons. The reactions were termed "cold fusion," even though no one really knew then with confidence that nuclear reactions were occurring. Their novel experimental results were at odds with hot fusion data and were not supported by theory. Condensed Matter Nuclear Science, originally known as cold fusion, has been studied by thousands of scientists globally since the field began in 1989. The experimental evidence for the ability to induce nuclear reactions at low energies and temperatures is very strong although the mechanisms for the nuclear reactions are not yet understood.
The purpose of this scientific conference is to present and discuss new results on low energy nuclear reactions (LENR), which originally went by the name "cold fusion." The production of unexpectedly large amounts of excess heat in metals heavily loaded with hydrogen is also called the Fleischmann-Pons Effect.

Random Haunts
BRIEF: Someone jabbed a pencil in his eye SUMMARY: The building is haunted by one of the former Brothers of the Sacred Heart. (The brothers still run the high school.) This man, Reginald, died and was buried nearby. The students hated the man, however, and one of them stuck a pencil in his eye at his funeral! His ghost has been seen walking into the rooms on the 4th floor. |

"Shotgun Annie" is an actual living and breathing person and when traveling down this lane she will shoot at u till u get away from her property cause of her fear of the state wanting her property. It is best to turn around and get away form her as quick as possible, upon return stop on the bridge and honk the horn once and flash the headlights on and off 3 times and look into the river and u can see the ghost of harriet tubman on a raft paddleing down the creek. |
BRIEF: Toasting ghosts SUMMARY: A few miles out of Chestertown there is a old farm house on rt. 291. The house used to be owned by the Bartz family one some of them still haunt the house. |
BRIEF: Old theatre with several hauntings. SUMMARY: The Weinberg Center opened just before Christmas, 1926. The theater had 1,500 seats. The Tivoli Theatre was the largest of the three downtown Frederick movie houses. It cost over $300,000 to build, a fantastic sum in its time.
The Tivoli featured lavish decoration with marble, mosaics, velvet chairs, and crystal chandeliers. The theater had a Wurlitzer organ. It is the only one in that is still completely intact and in it original shape. The architect for the Tivoli was John J. Zink. He was a native of Baltimore.
The theater business of course steadily declined, and the Tivoli finally closed. A disastrous flood in 1976 from a nearby river caused substantial damage. The town decided to restore the grand old theater to its original glory. It took a year and a half to restore the building, but the rebuilt Tivoli reopened in 1978, now known as the Weinberg Center for the Arts, having been named for the family that donated the building to the city of Frederick.
The old theater is thought to be haunted by spirits who worked in the old theater in its past. |
BRIEF: Evil use long ago leaves an urban legend and scars of curiousity SUMMARY: Devil Tree is located on Long Road. Long Road is, amusingly, a rather short road. A wooded field opens up at its southern end. At the end of the field stands a large, freakish tree with a branch that extends parallel to the ground. This is the so-called "Devil's Tree." |
BRIEF: Underground Railroad station SUMMARY: The house was once an Underground Railroad stop. People have heard the sound of rattling chains in the house. The spirits of slaves and Civil War soldiers have been seen in the house. Doors open and close on their own accord and lights are known to turn on and off. |
BRIEF: "lost at sea at the age of 40" SUMMARY: The story how Timonium got it name is a very interesting tale.
A woman from the Baltimore area named Cassandra Van Pradelles was returning on a ship from New Orleans in 1815. Her ship was captured by pirates. The headstrong woman argued with the pirates because she did not want them to take her belongings. The pirates made her walk the plank and she drowned in the deep waters. |

BRIEF: To fendeth thee off SUMMARY: Frightened locals doing research on Old Peninsula Cemetery, reported seeing the ghost of a woman in a black cape: She stands on her own grave, as if to guard it. |
BRIEF: An old house with many uses carries a presence SUMMARY: The William W. Early house is an elegant high-style frame dwelling in the Queen Anne style. It was built at the end of the Victorian period, by a successful and prominent businessman, in a conscious attempt to utilize the best features of a style which was already on the decline. The house resembles several plans available through mail-order pattern books in the 1890's, but the exact pattern has not been identified. In any case, the house is one of the best examples of its type in Prince George's County. |
BRIEF: Apparitions and Bridges are never a good mix SUMMARY: There is a bridge located near Hollywood, Maryland, along St. Andrew's Church Road. The bridge crosses over a dark, swampy area. This location is home to two different ghosts. |
|
|
BRIEF: Multiple ghosts haunt this old house in Colonial Williamsburg SUMMARY: At least two presences haunt the Randolph house. Two suicides are known to have occurred in the house, as well as a deep conflict between brothers, and the death of a child.

BRIEF: Ghostly ferry passenger SUMMARY: The beach area has a boardwalk and other attractions for tourists. The former boardwalk and pier ties can be seen by the light of the full moon. A ghostly apparition has been seen walking over the boardwalk. He appear to be waiting for the old ferry that once crossed the area. |

SUMMARY: This large brick building on Capitol Hill served as the Naval Hospital from 1866 to 1906. It sits on a triangular lot, between 9th and 10th Streets, defined by Pennsylvania Avenue on the north. The building faces south, with an entrance on E Street, and is within the vicinity of the current Marine Barracks and the Navy Yard. Prior to the construction of this building, the Navy had used as hospital a rented building near the Navy Yard (1811-1843); a facility within the confines of the Marine Barracks until the Civil War; and a portion of the Government Hospital for the Insane (St. Elizabeths Hospital) during the War. |
BRIEF: Flying cup is caught to announce ghostly presence SUMMARY: Dishes being done and put away by a first time visitor in the old row home. The cabinet is opened and awaiting dishes, the family is gathered and chatting and a cup came flying at the visitor who was doing the dishes, which was caught by the way. 4 witnesses tried to explain it away but couldn't.
During the night the visitor awoke and went downstairs to get a drink as she reached the landing a figure walked by her, a male, older in age and from a different generation, he gave a nod and was gone. He received the name of Casper and was seen several times by all members of the family and heard packing cigarettes is the closest sound it could be described as.
There was a discussion with longtime residence of the area and they told the visitor that there was a story of a ghost who wandered that area searching for a woman he loved who was a prostitute and was murdered in the late 1800s or ealry 1900s. He was an older factory worker and has been seen several times on the streets of North Reading. |

BRIEF: Many documented paranormal activities SUMMARY: The lighthouse is known as America's most haunted lighthouse. Point Lookout has had many documented paranormal activities since the 1860's, and the haunts have been recorded by the park rangers. Ann Davis was the first light house keeper's wife who took over his duties. Her ghostly spirit has been seen standing in the stairway. People have heard the sound of disembodied voices talking in the lighthouse. The sound of strange noises have been recorded on audiotape. The ghostly apparition of Civil War soldiers who were lost during the Civil War have been seen wandering the basement and grounds searching for graves that were moved over a century ago. |
BRIEF: It's not the fall, but the stop at the end SUMMARY: The 4.3 mile long Chesapeake Bay Bridge has been used by people to commit suicide ever since it opened in 1952. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge had only been opened four months when a Baltimore engineer leapt from the bridge in September, 1952. He jumped off the high tower span. It is unknown whether he drowned in the frigid waters 190 feet below, or whether he bapped against steel and concrete on his way to a watery grave. |

"Surveys, such as the one conducted in 1996 by Gallup of a nationally representative sample of Americans, continue to show a high degree of belief, interest and involvement in a variety of paranormal and religious related phenomena among the general population. For example, 48 percent believed in the possibility of extra-sensory perception (ESP), 45 percent believe that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) have already visited Earth, and 56 and 72 per cent believed in the reality of the devil and angels, respectively (Gallup, 1997). In fact, these numbers have actually gone up since the surveys first started (Gallup and Newport, 1991) and other surveys amongst university and college students have yielded similar results (e.g. Messer and Griggs, 1989). Perhaps due to the widespread existence of such beliefs, the investigation of personality correlates of paranormal and particularly religious belief has received considerable attention in recent years, but little attention was given to both simultaneously." --Chris Huntley, 2005 Ph.D. thesis, Correlation of Paranormal Beliefs, Religious Beliefs and Personality

4 years, 5 months, 14 days, 7 hours, 50 minutes, 38 seconds until the Mayan end of Age. December 21 2012 (11:11am GMT)— The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11 UTC. --wikipedia . See also If this were England, I would have to go. But this is America, and therefore you have to go. --JFK, upon firing General Cabell from the CIA. General Cabell's brother Earl Cabell was the mayor of Dallas, TX at JFK's assassination "When you get old, the only things you remember are the things you dared to do and the things you didn't dare to do. All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue."
