We drove around looking for others and took some pictures up near the Olde Forest Inn and the marble fountain. I was sure I heard someone calling out my name from the woods...I flashed the lights and strobes and continued taking pictures. After a while Liz, Nancy, Jennifer and Marcos arrived, and, deciding to visit Beta Castle, we promptly set out on foot down the familiar path. At a spot between the Spanish Villa dorm and the Beta Castle, along the rocky path that was once under a footbridge, and near the spot where I'd once felt touched (two summers ago), Liz worked the divining rods briskly and efficiently determined that our spirit guide was again Fred, whom Liz had contacted during our previous traipse. I introduced myself and sat down across from him. He looked at me intensely for several minutes and made the following observations: I was wearing, in his mind's eye, an Indian headress. He also saw an "all seeing eye" on my forehead. He also mentioned my "incredibly intense character" and had distinct "visions of satellite dishes" nearby, visible to him over my shoulders. Stanley did not know a thing about me. I have quite a collection of totem poles; I'm interested in Egyptology, actively researching topics involving the Eye of Horus, and heavily involved in communications. Eckhardt passed on a great western ghost story told by an old cowboy storyteller, one of the last to ride on the cattle drives to Montana. Lon Schuyler worked as a nighthawk and wrangler on his first cattle drive in 1892. Stampede Mesa was a place that all the cowboys knew about. The mesa lay on a peninsula jutting out between the North Blanco River and McNeil Creek. There was a drop-off into McNeil Draw from 6 to about 25 feet and a drop-off into Blanco Canyon of nearly 200 feet at the highest point. These drop-offs formed a natural corral and holding pen. Men, horses and cattle could rest for a couple of days with plenty of grass and water. Schuyler said that sometime in the early 1880s, Stampede Mesa's scary legend began. I can say I agree with you that it's become dangerous there and that was probably my last trip. The place is just deteriorating so quickly. Also, it sounded like there were some angry, unfriendly animals in the far side of the main building when we were there. I'm not trying to get caught in a room with a pissed off bear or anything. There were also a ton of people up there - so I can see why they brought the po-po in. I can't wait for your documentary. (it may be old but it has alot of pics on it still so can't get rid of it yet) Also, the parkway motel (which had terriable taste in decorationing since the rooms were shabby 50 60 era) was used by the fire department for training then torn down.
