SUMMARY: Jefferson's Rock is a massive boulder that sits precariously on the mountaintop of the West Virginia peak in Harper's Ferry, alongside the Shenandoah River. The historical plaque notes that it was used as an observation point during the Civil War.

SUMMARY: This building, not far from the Rosewell Plantation, is located near the York Plains Ford Battlefield. It's said to be haunted by the ghost of a man who committed murder here. Perhaps the soul is tortured or blocked, made to remain in this place. People have reported hearing shrieking screams coming from within the building, which reportedly burned at one time, killing some people who were inside.

SUMMARY: Reports have included phantom musket fire and the "scalp-haloo" of Indians at night in the area where George Washington's first defeat took place in 1754.

SUMMARY: Baltimore's area newspapers, including the Evening Sun, printed reports about a community that was in a panic over a phantom stalker. The legend of the O'Donnell Heights phantom is a Baltimore story that dates back to the summer of 1951 when numerous people reported dozens of sightings of the phantom over a three-week period.

SUMMARY: Sitting along Bethlehem Pike in Flourtown is an old building called the Black Horse Inn. The building was constructed 30 years before the formation of our country. General George Washington used it as a rest stop for his men on their way to Valley Forge.

SUMMARY: A member of the Johns Hopkins family built this most interesting house. Henry Harrison Hopkins was a pharmacist. He built the house in 1868.

SUMMARY: John Wilkes Booth crossed the Potomac River at Pope's Creek during his escape after assassinating President Lincoln. John Wilkes Booth's ghost is spotted at locations around Maryland. He has been spotted at Pope's Creek by fishermen who have seen it sneaking along the water's edge. Apparently, Maryland being a "swing state" in the Civil War with split allegiances, the southern counties (such as Charles County) tended to, perhaps not "harbor" fugitives but at least look the other way. Such was the case, reportedly, with JWB after he shot Lincoln.

SUMMARY: The Babcock Park is haunted by a ghostly woman who was murdered by her husband. Her husband was a preacher, until the moment he caught her cheating on him. He felt that she should be punished, so he murdered her.

SUMMARY: Queen Anne's County was the first English settlement in the State of Maryland. In 1627 the Governor of Virginia authorized William Clayborne to locate a site on the Chesapeake Bay to set up a trading post. William Clayborne selected the island of Kent Narrows to set up a trading post.

SUMMARY: This old tavern is one of the oldest buildings in Annapolis. It was built in the mid 1700's. Horatio Middleton purchased the tavern. After he died it was then owned and operated by his son Samuel. The tavern is known to be haunted by many famous historical figures who once stayed at the tavern. Some of the ghostly people who haunt the building are Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington. An apparition has been seen walking the halls of the tavern. The tavern is now a restaurant and bar.

SUMMARY: Near the battle site Antietam there is a stretch of road that leads out of Boonsboro and towards several Civil War battle sites. If you drive your vehicle to the base of the steep hill and put your vehicle in neutral the ghosts of Confederate army men will push your vehicle back up the slight incline towards Boonsboro. It is said they are pushing cannons and artillery pieces. Sometimes you can hear laughter from the woods.

SUMMARY: The John Wentz house, which stood at this site in 1863, was a small log and weatherboard structure with an accompanying barn and other small outbuildings associated with a small farm. The Wentz property was a corner lot surrounded by the famous peach orchard.

SUMMARY: Annapolis played a big part of Maryland war efforts during the Revolutionary War. The American Revolutionary war ocurred between the years of 1775 and 1778. Annapolis had a Barracks that was rented for the soldiers' housing by the Union. The soldiers suffered hard times while staying in Annapolis, however. There was a shortage of food, the Barracks had no fuel for heat, and they had little furniture and few blankets: The soldiers sometimes burned the furniture for heat. The Barracks had two main rooms on the first floor and two rooms on the second floor. The basement had a kitchen, and the remains of an old oven are in the wall.

SUMMARY: A young, inexperienced and frightened Civil War soldier follows his basic instincts and flees a battlefield massacre. Wounded and possibly hoping to find himself better application while alive, he is tortured during the regrouping at the direction of his commander. Revenge leads to death, leads to more death, leads to a restless spirit that several people have reported in St. Patrick's Church.

SUMMARY: In the 1964 earthquake, dozens of children died in the Jesse Lee Home For Children.

SUMMARY: The original part of the house was built in 1743 and an addition was added in 1825. The house has a history that goes back to the War of 1812. The British Warship H.M.S. Menelause under command of Sir Peter Parker came ashore through Kent County. Peter was seriously wounded and taken to the Mitchell House and he died in the kitchen. The Col Phillip Reed Room also known as room #4 has a rocking chair in the room. The employees of the inn have seen this rocking chair rocking back and forth with no one in the chair. One of the owners had a dog that liked to play in that room and he also acted like he was playing with someone. The family's cat would not enter this room. Guests who have sat in the rocking chair have felt something touch their leg. Funny noises can be heard through out the house. The basement gives you a bad feeling. This is a place where slaves were kept in chains.

SUMMARY: An historic, small stone house at the corner of Seven Locks Rd. and River Rd. (between I-495 and the Cabin John Firehouse) is all that now remains of what was once a very large expanse of land known as "Magruder's Honesty." (A.K.A. Beall's and Magruder's Honesty.) Maryland State land records show various owners of various subdivisions of the land, beginning before 1783. There is at least one ghost legend attributed to the land, but, as the house has been sealed up (with a plaque out front) for some years, it has not been recently verified.
