BRIEF: Charles haunts this place. SUMMARY: The house was built by Charles Carroll, last living signer of the Declaration of Independence, in 1754. Charle Carroll was born in Annapolis in 1737 and after studying abroad returned to Frederick County and built Carrollton Manor which once occupied an estate of over 17,000 acres, including mills, a race track and several lime kilns. It is believed due to his interest in the B&O railroad and his political activities, that he spent little time at the house.
The house is reportedly haunted by the Carroll family. BRIEF: This one sticks around SUMMARY: The third floor of this Inn is haunted by an unknown ghost which does not want to depart. BRIEF: Ghost of indian maiden continues to search for her lost love on the Antietam Creek SUMMARY: Antietam Creek is a tributary of the Potomac River located in south central Pennsylvania and western Maryland in the United States. The creek became famous as a focal point of the Battle of Antietam during the American Civil War. The term Antietam is thought to be a derivative of a Native American phrase meaning "swift flowing stream."
The Antietam Creek is a place that the American Indians used to camp back many years ago. The people of Funkstown tell a story of a young Catawa Indian girl that dates back to 1750. This young maiden girl fell madly in love with a young boy from Delaware who had moved to the area. Both youths where only fifteen years old. The young couple would meet secretly at the creek. One day the young girl waited for the young boy to arrive and he never showed up. . The young maiden later learns that the young boy had been killed in an accident. She was so upset that she drowned herself in the creek. The towns people say that on September 12, the anniversary of her drowning, you can see her ghost paddling her canoe up the creek. She calls out the young boys name searching for him. People in the town have seen her and like to tell the tale. BRIEF: Death and drowning... SUMMARY: The Loy's Station covered bridge was built around 1860 by the Loy family. The family owned the feed mill and post office at Loy's Station, which was a small community with a railroad station.
The original bridge was modified in 1929. New steel beams were installed to replace the original wooden beams and the lateral bracing under the wooden floor. The bridge was destroyed by arson in 1991. Volunteers restored the bridge using timbers salvaged from the old bridge.
During the Civil War the Union and Confederate Armies marched through Frederick and Thurmont on their way to Gettysburg and Antietam. Many small skirmishes took place around Frederick and Thurmont. The soldiers often camped near covered bridges for protective cover and usually water for their horses.
The covered bridges are reportedly haunted by the soldiers who died there and by people that drowned in the water below.
The bridge is located on Old Frederick Road, in Creagerstown. BRIEF: They claspeed hands and stepped off SUMMARY: It's said that a young couple, who were madly in love despite their disapproving families, held hands as they jumped from this bridge. People travelling the bridge have reported seeing ghostly apparitions of a young girl crying, "I love you." Other reports have included apparitions jumping from the bridge.
