Instead of being buried in individual graves, these immigrants were thrown into a mass grave pit that had been dug out in the woods. An enormous black cross was erected on top. BRIEF: Originally Built as a silk mill in Virginia in 1754, relocated to Maryland in 1840 SUMMARY: The Landon House was built in 1745. The house served as the headquarters for J.E.B Stuart during the Civil War. Stuart troops had a dog as their troop mascot. After the Antietam battle the house was used as a hospital for the Union and Confederate soldiers.
Soldiers often took dogs to battle with them. Many soldiers were wounded and killed in the massive battle at Antietam. One of the dogs was wounded in battle and he was taken to the Landon House after the battle. The dog died. The ghostly dog has been seen in the house.
Some Civil war re-actors came to visit the house and photographed the ghostly dog and its keeper looking out of the window.
