In 1989, two chemists announced that they produced nuclear reactions and thermal energy under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure using electrochemistry. They were Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons. The reactions were termed "cold fusion," even though no one really knew then with confidence that nuclear reactions were occurring. Their novel experimental results were at odds with hot fusion data and were not supported by theory. Condensed Matter Nuclear Science, originally known as cold fusion, has been studied by thousands of scientists globally since the field began in 1989. The experimental evidence for the ability to induce nuclear reactions at low energies and temperatures is very strong although the mechanisms for the nuclear reactions are not yet understood.
The purpose of this scientific conference is to present and discuss new results on low energy nuclear reactions (LENR), which originally went by the name "cold fusion." The production of unexpectedly large amounts of excess heat in metals heavily loaded with hydrogen is also called the Fleischmann-Pons Effect.

Random Haunts
BRIEF: An old mansion with its old ghost SUMMARY: Black Horse Inn is located about one hour outside of Washington, D.C. The mansion was built prior to the Civil War and is reportedly haunted. |
BRIEF: Long gone and submerged, some spirits remain. SUMMARY: The intentional joining of three major streams formed Lake Roland, the Jones Falls, Roland Run, and the Towson Run. The streams were brought together in the late 1800's. The lakes were formed to build a water supply for Baltimore City. |
BRIEF: A private school with numerous hauntings. SUMMARY: This is a private school located on McDough Road in Owings Mills. The school has a number of haunted locations.
The Tagart Chapel is a beautiful little chapel, and people have been buried in its floor, walls and basement. Subsequently, people have heard voices talking in the chapel when no one was in the building. |
BRIEF: The Major General from Maryland SUMMARY: The Smallwood House was built in 1760 by General William Smallwood. William Smallwood was born in 1732, he was born into a wealthy family who were active in Maryland politics. His father, Bayne Smallwood, was a Charles County delegate to the Maryland Assembly. He was also a justice of the Charles County Court. |
BRIEF: Blue lights and apparitions within SUMMARY: Two Civil War soldiers haunt this church. The soliders' ghosts have been seen resting at the church on rainy nights. People have seen the church's windows glow, reportedly in October around the 27th.
The church is also haunted by a ghostly young woman who is seen kneeling in the church. |
BRIEF: Over 300 years of history guarantees a good haunting or three. SUMMARY: Genealogy and coincidence can be a curiously creepy mix. Add in this kind of history, and who knows what might be lurking in the shadows? |
BRIEF: Long history of the gallows, graves and numerous ghosts. SUMMARY: The Kent County Courthouse is the site of old gallows, a large and largely unmarked graveyard, and much intrigue. Past events and current exploits have stirred up trouble that, some say, remains to the present. |

BRIEF: Spirits apparently often misinterpret symbolism. SUMMARY: A visitor comments: "We were stunned."
I personally owned a house on this grove and witnessed first hand the reaction of the spirit world to hanging a rope from a Poplar tree in the grove for a swing.
People who visited felt extremely uncomfortable and ill at ease in the grove. A swing was fully moved from hanging straight down to way back, as if someone was there holding up the swing, about to push it mightily.
This persisted for about 30 seconds. We were stunned! Immediately my friend assisted me in climbing up this huge tree and cutting down the rope swing. As soon as the rope was down peace and serenity returned to the grove.
I have a picture that I took in the grove of what appears to be the slight image of a slave in overalls by the very tree that I had a rope swing. |
BRIEF: Moved bodies always makes a mess. SUMMARY: Laboring Son Park, located between fifth and sixth street in Frederick, was once a grave yard for Blacks. The city turned the cemetery into a park. But it was eventually discovered that not all the bodies were moved. The city took the playground equipment off the site and promised to place a memorial sign at the site. This sign was only recently installed. |
BRIEF: ...to help the poor SUMMARY: In November, 1773, an Act for the Relief of the Poor in Baltimore County became law. The Maryland General Assembly passed the act to create an almshouse and workhouse. The County magistrates and justices of the peace were assigned the duty of committing vagrants, beggars, and disorderly people who had no job or trade, or no visible means of support. These people were committed to the Almshouse. People who broke the rules or attempted to run away were subjected to restrictions or elimination of relief benefits. They would also sometimes be whipped and put to hard labor. |
BRIEF: Location of one of the Civil War’s bloodiest battles. SUMMARY: A major battle took place on this location during the Civil War. Speculated to be one of the most "haunted" places in America. Numerous sigtings of apparitions, ectoplasm, as well as audible and olfactory experiences. Sounds of calamity, men yelling, and even cannonfire have been reported; smells of gunpowder and smoke. |
BRIEF: Famous places, important faces, historical graces. SUMMARY: The Maryland's State House is located in Annapolis. It is the country's oldest State House that has been in continuous legislative use. Joseph Horatio Anderson designed the building. The construction on the State House started in 1772 and was delayed by the American Revolutionary War. It was completed in 1779. |
BRIEF: Two uncommon deaths in the Presidential Suite SUMMARY: Two mysterious deaths occurred in the Presidential Suite of the Omni Shoreham hotel.
The first death took place in 1930. The executive housekeeper, Juliette Brown, died in that room. She was staying in the suite along with the owner of the hotel and his family. She woke up feeling very sick at 4:00 am. She died when she was dialing the phone for help. |

BRIEF: Ah, the old wrinkling sheets trick SUMMARY: The Dickinson Mansion is haunted by the ghost of John Dickinson. He is the former owner of the home. "Surveys, such as the one conducted in 1996 by Gallup of a nationally representative sample of Americans, continue to show a high degree of belief, interest and involvement in a variety of paranormal and religious related phenomena among the general population. For example, 48 percent believed in the possibility of extra-sensory perception (ESP), 45 percent believe that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) have already visited Earth, and 56 and 72 per cent believed in the reality of the devil and angels, respectively (Gallup, 1997). In fact, these numbers have actually gone up since the surveys first started (Gallup and Newport, 1991) and other surveys amongst university and college students have yielded similar results (e.g. Messer and Griggs, 1989). Perhaps due to the widespread existence of such beliefs, the investigation of personality correlates of paranormal and particularly religious belief has received considerable attention in recent years, but little attention was given to both simultaneously." --Chris Huntley, 2005 Ph.D. thesis, Correlation of Paranormal Beliefs, Religious Beliefs and Personality

4 years, 5 months, 14 days, 7 hours, 50 minutes, 30 seconds until the Mayan end of Age. December 21 2012 (11:11am GMT)— The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11 UTC. --wikipedia . All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue."
