"Life may Suck, but it's always better than the alternative - Atlanta Suicide Crisis Center"
4 years, 2 months, 13 days, 8 hours, 8 minutes, 1 second until the Mayan end of Age. December 21 2012 (11:11am GMT). The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11 UTC. --wikipedia . All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue." --P.J. "We foster an environment of constructive peer review, the philosophy being the more active members out there thinking, observing and collecting evidence, the more likely someone is to produce something substantial and the more we all collectively learn. Another way to look at it: Every family has an eccentric member or two; we're the place where all those folks can collectively hang out and feel at home."
BRIEF: Various activity still haunts this old property SUMMARY: This home was built in 1820 by Joseph Kemp. The home is now an inn. One employee saw a blue flash streak up the stairs. A lot of unusual activity takes place in the Blue Room on the second floor. BRIEF: Red eyes chase away night time visitors. SUMMARY: Red eyes chase away night time visitors. Also, it is said, Conrad Snyder, who haunts his family's resting place, also chases away visitors. A black shadow has been reported in this vicinity. BRIEF: An old building with many uses and ghosts. SUMMARY: The Maryland State Police building in Pikvesville was built in 1816 and served as a federal arsenal. It was used as a U.S. military post until 1879. Then, it was converted into the Maryland Home for Confederate Veterans and served in this capacity from 1888-1932. BRIEF: Spirits apparently often misinterpret symbolism. SUMMARY: A visitor comments: "We were stunned."
I personally owned a house on this grove and witnessed first hand the reaction of the spirit world to hanging a rope from a Poplar tree in the grove for a swing.
People who visited felt extremely uncomfortable and ill at ease in the grove. A swing was fully moved from hanging straight down to way back, as if someone was there holding up the swing, about to push it mightily.
This persisted for about 30 seconds. We were stunned! Immediately my friend assisted me in climbing up this huge tree and cutting down the rope swing. As soon as the rope was down peace and serenity returned to the grove.
I have a picture that I took in the grove of what appears to be the slight image of a slave in overalls by the very tree that I had a rope swing. BRIEF: This place was once a funeral home SUMMARY: The Post Office was once an undertaker's place of business. Many early citizens of Ellicott City were prepared, grieved for, and viewed there. People believe that this building is haunted. Some claim to have heard strange noises and find doors opening on their own. BRIEF: This old house, from humble beginnings... SUMMARY: The John Wentz house, which stood at this site in 1863, was a small log and weatherboard structure with an accompanying barn and other small outbuildings associated with a small farm. The Wentz property was a corner lot surrounded by the famous peach orchard. BRIEF: The ghost of a Scottish Highland soldier who was killed in the battle can be seen roaming the woodline from Edge Hill. SUMMARY: The ghost of a Scottish Highland soldier who was killed in the battle can be seen roaming the woodline from Edge Hill. BRIEF: A creepy, rotting old cabin set back in the woods adjacent to a summer camp SUMMARY: Cropsey's cabin is a rotting old cabin set about 30 yards into the woods adjacent to what was a thriving summer camp. Local legend had it that Cropsey was a one-armed loner who may or may not have murdered two young boys who were camping in nearby woods. On occasion, what sounded like moans could be heard from the vicinity of the cabin, and rustling noises were also reported. BRIEF: Boom times to bust, underground fatalities have left remnants SUMMARY: Commercial coal mining became a successful business in Chesterfield by 1730. Coal was discovered in Chesterfield during the early 1700's near Manakin Town, a French Huguenot(*) settlement. Several French Huguenot families operated the coal pits near Falling Creek and the James River.
(*) The Huguenots were French Protestants who were members of the Reformed Church which was established in 1550 by John Calvin. The origin of the name Huguenot is uncertain, but dates from approximately 1550 when it was used in court cases against "heretics" (dissenters from the Roman Catholic Church). There is a theory that it is derived from the personal name of Besancon Hugues, the leader of the "Confederate Party" in Geneva, in combination with a Frankish corruption of the German word for conspirator or confederate: eidgenosse. Thus, Hugues plus eidgenot becomes Huguenot, with the intention of associating the Protestant cause with some very unpopular politics. BRIEF: It roams SUMMARY: People have seen a werewolf roaming around Varina. It has reportedly been seen in the Confederate Hills Recreation Center during the full moon. Reports include howling and a probability of giving chase; beware. BRIEF: After Mr. Gentile drowned. SUMMARY: The lake was once part of the Belair estate, dating back to the 1740's. The old stone bridge that crosses the lake was one of the old driveways that approached the house. BRIEF: Standard haunting 101. SUMMARY: People have reported seeing ghostly apparitions floating through this graveyard. I led an investigation there in 2002. We got excellent readings on EMF detectors, often with peaks between 40 and 50. The infrared temperature gauges got readings of 9 degrees below zero though the outside temperature was in the 60 degrees at that time. Our pictures captured numerous orbs. BRIEF: Katie's Church was named after Katie Vandine. SUMMARY: Katie's Church was named after Katie Vandine. Her story goes that her Finance, a soldier, was headed home to marry her, but instead word that he was killed. Distraught, she hung herself in the tree, in her wedding dress, at the church. Katie's headstone faces opposite of all the others. BRIEF: Blue lights and apparitions within SUMMARY: Two Civil War soldiers haunt this church. The soliders' ghosts have been seen resting at the church on rainy nights. People have seen the church's windows glow, reportedly in October around the 27th.
The church is also haunted by a ghostly young woman who is seen kneeling in the church. BRIEF: A bad storm, a shipwreck, and at least one ghost. SUMMARY: Capt. James Drew was the captain of the DeBraak, a British naval ship. The ship sank at Cape Henlopen on May 25, 1798 as the result of a severe storm. The "ghost light" was apparently partly to blame. It phantom has been seen off the coast and appears to re-enact the disaster. BRIEF: An headless apparition haunts this forest BRIEF: An old dirt road, 2 older graveyards SUMMARY: An old dirt road, 2 older graveyards BRIEF: Several hauntings reported all along this road SUMMARY: People have reported seeing disturbing sightings of ghostly beings on the road.
