BRIEF: The oldest town in Allegany county. SUMMARY: The oldest town in Allegany County, Maryland, Oldtown, established in 1741 was once the village of Shawnee King Opessa. The first post office was established in the town on May 26, 1870. The town is located along the historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, in proximity to the Potomac River. George Washington visited the town in 1748. BRIEF: A heavyset ghost who jams on the keys SUMMARY: Back in the early 1970's, a black preacher died of a heart attack in his room. His wife didn't discover this until the morning, however, and ever since then the piano upstairs plays music on its own accord. BRIEF: The Fox Load SUMMARY: The Fox Load at Lesly Manor is haunted by a ghostly apparition which is very active, day and night. The ghost is the spirit of Jane Lesley (wife of Dr. Allan Vorhees Lesley). They built the mansion house.
The house is also haunted by Dr. Allan who makes an appearances from time to time. BRIEF: Ghostly ferry passenger SUMMARY: The beach area has a boardwalk and other attractions for tourists. The former boardwalk and pier ties can be seen by the light of the full moon. A ghostly apparition has been seen walking over the boardwalk.
