Understanding • Awareness

Psy-ops "combined to redefine the parameters of acceptable discourse in America. Principal among the notions placed beyond the Pale was the practice and theory of "conspiracism" -- which soon came to include criticism of mainstream reportage. More than a matter of seeing cabals behind every murder, it was a way of thinking, a stance toward the networks, the press and the feds. Anyone who looked too deeply into events, or who asked too many questions, was dismissed as "a conspiracy theorist." (This, after MK-ULTRA, Iran-Contra, BCCI, and the destruction of the World Trade Centers.) In some ways, it is as if the century itself has been encrypted, so that if an historian would be honest, he must also become an investigative reporter. Failing that, we are left at the mercy of ambitious academicians and journalists, stenographers to power who are themselves complicit in an astonishing string of cover-ups and atrocities that stretch from Dealy Plaza to Watergate, Waco to 9/11." --Peter Levenda

Haunts Database

Little Brice House

BRIEF: An ominous ill-wish dream card.

SUMMARY: Ariana Vanderheyden Jennings lived from 1690 to 1741. She was the grand-daughter of Augustine Herman and grandmother to John Brice III. Mrs. Jennings once had a strange event happen before she went to England. In the twilight of sleep before her trip, she saw a ghostly apparition of a female figure. This female, sitting in Mrs. Jenning's home but under an odd portrait that she'd never seen before, was ill with small pox, as evidenced all over her face. Mrs. Jennings recognized the resemblance of the apparition to the unmarked lady in the picture. Mrs. Jennings had told her husband, John Brice II, about the ghostly apparition and her vision.

House on South Regester Street

Baltimore City, Maryland
Part of: Fells Point Area

BRIEF: Simple alley house with powerful paranormal energy

SUMMARY: Along a typical alley in the Fells Point area, the unassuming edifice on South Regester Street conceals hidden paranormal energies.

Old City Hall

BRIEF: Old angsts and criminals led to a variety of hauntings.

SUMMARY: Old City Hall is located at Court Square and holds an important place in Frederick's history. Back in 1765 the citizens of Frederick gathered at the old court house that was located on this spot to protest the Stamp Act. They burned effigies of government officials who enforced the Stamp Act. All the towns people took a stand against England's Stamp Act, which was a punitive slap to Colonists anyway, which was another abominable form of "taxation without representation."

Sixteenth Street Northwest

BRIEF: Formerly the Washington Meridian, directly north of the White House

SUMMARY: Early in the city's history, many foreign embassies located on 16th Street because of its proximity to the White House. Many religious denominations followed suit by building significant churches on the street to serve symbolically as embassies, thus earning the street the nickname "Church Row."

Tragedy Above Rock Creek

Northwest, District of Columbia
Part of: M Street Bridge

BRIEF: The stagecoach went wildly astray

SUMMARY: In the late 1800's a stagecoach veered off of a bridge along M Street during a fierce thunderstorm. All horses and passengers perished.

"When you get old, the only things you remember are the things you dared to do and the things you didn't dare to do. All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue." --P.J.
