BRIEF: One town, three ghosts. SUMMARY: The town is known to be haunted by three ghosts. One of the ghostly apparitions is a depressed looking man. He is known to walk through downtown late at night. Another ghost is known to haunt "lover's lane," outside of town. The third ghost is an apparently suicidal man who drowned himself on the beach. Bowers Beach is at the end of Highway 1, southeast of Dover. BRIEF: Our nation's largest star fort SUMMARY: Fort Monroe was built between 1819 and 1834, but the history of fortifications on the site goes back much further. As early as 1608, Captain John Smith recognized the importance of building a fort at Point Comfort, as the English colonists called this land. In 1609 they built Fort Algernourne here, with the mission of protecting the approaches to the colony at Jamestown. Throughout the colonial period, there were other fortifications at this site, but none lasted very long. BRIEF: Long live the ex Vice Principal SUMMARY: Reported to be haunted by an ex-Vice Principal. The following year, on the same day of her firing, strange events occurred. People were shoved against walls; papers were thrown around, doors slammed without wind or obvious force, desks were toppled over --mostly when only one or a few people were around. BRIEF: Construction stirs up a different kind of dust. SUMMARY: The building is over one hundred years old. You can find strange cold spots in the building. The building became very active with ghostly activity during its renovation. Workers would find their tools disappearing and showing up in strange places. They would put in a window and would find it broken a few minutes later while they were still working -- something was cracking the glass. |
