Translated from Arabic, a Muslim is 'one who surrenders to God.'
4 years, 2 months, 13 days, 8 hours, 20 minutes until the Mayan end of Age. December 21 2012 (11:11am GMT). The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11 UTC. --wikipedia . All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue." --P.J. "We foster an environment of constructive peer review, the philosophy being the more active members out there thinking, observing and collecting evidence, the more likely someone is to produce something substantial and the more we all collectively learn. Another way to look at it: Every family has an eccentric member or two; we're the place where all those folks can collectively hang out and feel at home."
BRIEF: Ghostly monks and noises haunt this old building SUMMARY: Francis Hall, part of St. Bonaventure University, is a very old building in which monks once lived. BRIEF: If these old books could tell... SUMMARY: Many late-working employees have reported strange feelings and occurrences. They hear voices and sense movement, shuffling sounds coming from "the stacks" after no one should be there. Reports have been made by numerous employees over years of time. Books are found on some mornings, having been knocked onto the floor at some point during the night; sometimes, this reportedly involves entire shelves of books. BRIEF: Various apparitions from long ago. SUMMARY: The Chaney House was used as a hospital during the Battle of Funkstown in the Civil War. People who have worked in this home have reported strange happenings. BRIEF: A deserted, destroyed church and its spirits SUMMARY: Jacobs Church was a Lutheran church which sat between two towns, Hagerstown and Smithsburg. In the late 1970's the church was being used and known as the Peace
Church. BRIEF: Don't hit the apparition SUMMARY: This is a story of a haunted road. A weary looking old woman has been seen walking down MacArthur Boulevard near Seven Locks Road late on stormy nights --her faint apparition appears glistening in the dew and saturated air. BRIEF: The scene of a bloody battle SUMMARY: Blandensburg was the scene of a bloody battle between British and American forces on August 24, 1814, during the War of 1812. The British troops sailed up the Patuxent River and landed near Benedict, Maryland. They then traveled by foot through Nottingham and Upper Marlboro. BRIEF: The most haunted house in Laurel SUMMARY: Built in 1790 as a wedding gift to the daughter of Richard Snowden, the Oakland Mansion once presided over 1,000 acres of land. This house has a reputation for being the most haunted house in Laurel, with at least five resident ghosts in full activity. BRIEF: "It's that damn dam..." SUMMARY: Caroline County had two groups of Indians living in the territory. The Susquehannoughs tribe lived in the northern part and they belonged to the Iroquois family of Indian. They were fierce and aggressive. The Algonquins Indians lived on the the Eastern Shore. They were more peaceful. BRIEF: Ah, the old wrinkling sheets trick SUMMARY: The Dickinson Mansion is haunted by the ghost of John Dickinson. He is the former owner of the home. John Dickinson, was called the "penman of the Revolutionary War." He is still haunting his home. He can still be heard, it is said, writing in the den, scratching away on parchment resting on a smooth, wooden surface. This has been going on for years. BRIEF: Soldiers stick around SUMMARY: This building, used during the Civil War, is where the soldiers came to collect their pension. The old building is thought to be haunted by ghostly soldiers. Soldiers have been seen arriving "mounted, on horseback" to the building. The building's designer, Montgomery Meigs, also haunts the building. His face has been seen at the top of the marble columns in the building's great hall. BRIEF: Over eighty years in the making SUMMARY: Located at Massachusetts and Wisconsin Avenue, NW, The Washington National Cathedral is a magnificent and stunning structure. The foundation stone was laid in 1907 but the work was not completed until September 29, 1990, 83 years later. A lot can happen in that time. BRIEF: "a white humanoid ghost that chases people" SUMMARY: Stories of torture abound but not all of them are founded in fact. A place like Kings Park may seem creepy and it may make people think that something shady is going on. One rumor states that there are secret rooms in the tunnels where patients were beaten, tortured, and who knows what else. There is even a set up in the basement of a building where a cement block was supposedly slammed into patients while seated on a chair. This picture on the right was probably set up afterwards by explorers for effect. From photos we have received and stories from fans we believe every corner of the tunnels to have been explored by contributors to our site and there are no secret torture chambers. Most of the tunnels look just like the second photo on the right. They were used for steam. This is not to say of course that no mistreatment of patients ever occurred, it did happen. There are always odd people in any system that will corrupt it. Patient abuse is just as likely to take place in a dayroom than in the tunnels, also keep in mind the active tunnel would be over 100 degrees. --lioddities.com BRIEF: The founder's daughter still lingers. SUMMARY: The Inn is haunted by the daughter of the town founder. The sounds of footsteps, and doors opening and closing by themselves take place in the Inn. The Inn was so phantasmagorically active one evening that a planned prom was canceled. BRIEF: There is a surprise upstairs. SUMMARY: Mr. Harding purchased the house and a parcel of adjoining land in 1971. The house is known to be haunted by five ghostly apparitions.
His daughter Sarah died from a nasty viral infection when she was quite young. She had been chained and beaten by her father in one of the upstairs bedrooms of the house for misbehaving, and she became ill. This happened in 1940.
Sarah is buried about 200 feet behind the house.
Look out because she is not happy. BRIEF: Sightings of a "witch ghost" in the cemetery; puts flowers on childrens' graves. SUMMARY: Sightings have been reported of a "witch ghost" who, late at night, glides through the cemetery putting flowers on childrens' graves. BRIEF: Built by slaves, newly freed, eager to earn their pay SUMMARY: Big Bend Tunnel was built by over 100 men and one boy who worked on it. Many of them were newly-freed slaves who were trained for heavy labor. They were eager to earn the sum of $1.25 per day.
