4 years, 2 months, 13 days, 8 hours, 30 minutes, 43 seconds until the Mayan end of Age. December 21 2012 (11:11am GMT). The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11 UTC. --wikipedia . All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue." --P.J. "We foster an environment of constructive peer review, the philosophy being the more active members out there thinking, observing and collecting evidence, the more likely someone is to produce something substantial and the more we all collectively learn. Another way to look at it: Every family has an eccentric member or two; we're the place where all those folks can collectively hang out and feel at home."
BRIEF: A Jesuit family, a death, and several owners. SUMMARY: The Ban overlooks a cove just off the Severn River. The horse barn was built in 1850 and now serves as a retreat. Lord Baltimore patented the land on September 10, 1659 to Peter Porter and Sarah, his wife, who were granted 200 acres between Cove of Cork and the creek. BRIEF: Ice cold blasts despite sweltering July heat SUMMARY: This building was built in the 1700's and was once used as an opera house. This building is haunted by a piano that can sometimes be heard playing though no person is present. The sounds of footsteps are also heard in this building; some people have repoirted a feeling of being watched. BRIEF: beach front cabin SUMMARY: When I was in school we went on a field trip to Ms. Moran's cottage not sure why, it was near a beach and in Calvert County. We were told that the house was once occupied by a woman who was known as a witch and was hung for her "crimes". You could sense her near the "hanging tree" which was very oddly shaped and creepy. BRIEF: This Ley Line connects DC, Baltimore, NYC, Boston, Stonehenge and London SUMMARY: Popularized by Dawson in his book as Ley Lines, certain great circles on the Earth are "meridians of power", and buildings and other important structures are often built thereupon.
Meridian Hill Park, 13 blocks directly north of the White House (the meridian itself passes directly through the Whitehouse's East Wing), is the park that surrounds the exact point at which the "77th parallel" (the vertical line of longitude, 77-degrees west of Greenwich, England) crosses the Ley Line. BRIEF: The ghosts in the Stanley Hotel aren't evil as in the book. SUMMARY: The Stanley Hotel, known for its architecture, magnificent setting and famous visitors, may possibly be best known today for its inspirational role in Stephen King's novel "The Shining". The hotel has been featured as one of America’s most haunted hotels and with the numerous stories from visitors and staff, The Stanley Hotel continues to "shine" today, as it did in 1909 when first opened. A young student hung himself in the stairwell, violently breaking his neck in the process. BRIEF: A charming "country" house just "outside" of Ellicott City SUMMARY: Peaceful and charming, this old country house and farm is near burgeoning development in Howard County. BRIEF: Ghosts from the past life SUMMARY: A dark ghostly figure is seen haunting this school. Four original buildings remain (after St. Andrews was built over top of and all around the defunct Harker Prep) standing and in active use, one of which dates from 1810. BRIEF: TB was certainly popular in the past; maybe it will come around again. SUMMARY: Roney's Point is somewhat of a gathering place for college and high school students. The TB center was also used as a state insane asylum. The structure was being used up until around 1976, when half of the center burned down. People have reported strange occurrences inside the building. BRIEF: Residual apparitions SUMMARY: Robert Garrett, the President of the B&O Railroad, hired architect Stanford White to build him this great mansion in 1884. The house had a three story spiral staircase that Mrs. Garrett like to descend to make a grand entrance to greet her guests. She was the leader in Baltimore society and was known by everyone. Mrs. Garrett died in 1936. The mansion was sold twenty seven years later and was purchased by the Engineering Society of Baltimore. The Engineering Society found they were not alone when they moved in. Karen Haun the Comptroller for the Society reported that a shadowy figure would often pass her going down the second floor hallway and she felt some spirit was accompanying her. The basement was cordoned off since it was not open to visitors. The housekeepers often work alone at odd hours in the basement and they reported seeing the rope swinging and moving like an unseen hand was moving it. BRIEF: The dorms here are haunted by a ghost of young man who hung himself. SUMMARY: The dorms here are haunted by a ghost of young man who hung himself. The dorm is original, dating from the 1890's. When electricity was installed in the house, workers found a secret staircase. The staircase went from the library to a room down, downstairs. In the stairwell they found the skeleton of a woman. The woman was apparently the family member who had gone insane.
