"We foster an environment of constructive peer review, the philosophy being the more active members out there thinking, observing and collecting evidence, the more likely someone is to produce something substantial and the more we all collectively learn. Another way to look at it: Every family has an eccentric member or two; we're the place where all those folks can collectively hang out and feel at home."
Haunts Database
SUMMARY: In 1985, George Reynolds moved into an old, vacant, two-story house in Elk Mills. The home was in need of extensive structural repair because of years of neglect. Although Reynolds lived in the house by himself, he soon discovered he wasn't alone. Unknowingly, when he took possession of the home, he got more than he bargained for. The dwelling came complete with plenty of closet space, large bedrooms, a good piece of property and ghosts. While restoring the house, he slept on a cot in the living room. His first eerie experience happened in a nearby room where Reynolds said Hannah Simpers, the former owner, had spent some of her last days. Simpers, who never married, was born and raised in the home. The 70-year-old Reynolds believes she was the first of several frightening spirits he encountered. One night he went to bed only to be disturbed by an inexplicable event. Somewhere around two to three o'clock in the morning, I'd hear all these crazy noises out there, like somebody stomping and thumping and walking around," Reynolds said. The noises continued at the same time each night, taxing Reynolds' sanity. His next brush with the supernatural was a preexisting problem. Hannah Simpers had been tormented by it, too. "Every night, almost near the same time, two to three in the morning, somebody would beat on the back door and knock on the back side door next to this little room where Hannah slept. When he answered the door no one was ever there. BRIEF: Brimstone flying around in the sky SUMMARY: The Greenwood Mansion was built by William Williams as a wedding present for his daughter. The old house is located on a hill under a grove of trees.
A generation ago the house was occupied by its overseer and his wife. After their death Mr. Green put a black family in the house. However, that man soon enough told Mr. Green that it was impossible to live in the house due to ongoing strange occurrences, including showers of stones, some of them very large, falling from the ceiling, flying sideways from the walls, zooming in from windows, and zigzagging around the various rooms. BRIEF: The Vicary Mansion is said to be haunted by Captain Vicary. SUMMARY: The Vicary Mansion is said to be haunted by Captain Vicary. Tours are open on special days to celebrate the landmark. SUMMARY: A child's ghost has been spotted inside the church. SUMMARY: Opened in December 1862, Lincoln General was the largest of the military hospitals in the area built by the Army to take care of the Civil War casualties. It was located on Capitol Hill, 15 blocks east of the Capitol building. The hospital complex included 20 pavilions, arranged in two lines forming a V, and 25 tent wards, which provided altogether a bed capacity of 2,575. The kitchen and dining rooms were connected to the pavilions by means of a covered pathway. In addition to the headquarters (marked by the flag), there were officers quarters, quarters for Sisters who provided nursing service, barracks, guard house, separate quarters for contrabands, and service facilities such as water tank, laundry, barber shop, carpenter shop, stables and a morgue ("Dead House"). Like most other military hospitals, Lincoln General was taken down shortly after the Civil War. The area once occupied by Lincoln General is now a residental district. BRIEF: 100 years as a psychiatric treatment facility SUMMARY: First a luxury retreat in the then-distant suburbs, then a psychiatric compound for three generations of doctors, globally reknowned and on the edge of pharmacokinetic treatment with documented CIA/government interest, this place was about as involved as involved can be. BRIEF: It is said that back in the 1880's a maintenance worker killed all of the residents on the fourth floor and hid the bodies in the attic. SUMMARY: It is said that back in the 1880's a maintenance worker killed all of the residents on the fourth floor and hid the bodies in the attic.
