What is East Ghost?
EastGhost is a social nexus for paranormal enthusiasts, researchers and the curious that exists to empower, showcase and connect individuals, groups and information. Open, inclusive and climate-controlled, it offers a positive and constructive atmosphere that's enjoyable and maximally conducive to sharing and learning. One purpose is the collection, discussion and presentation of knowledge and findings: scientific, spiritual, supernatural, and anything paranormal.
With the ongoing help of and for the benefit of numerous individuals and various groups, EastGhost exists to network, share information, and maintain cohesiveness in the paranormal community that we all love. Broadly, we're all involved in the pursuit of truth, happiness and to find enjoyment, information and answers.
Members, independently or in whatever fluid alliances they wish, often share their experiences, expertise and investigative results, many of which are highly focused and ongoing. With thousands of registered members, updates and improvements are frequent; there's always something new.
We're building an organized and maintained "haunts database". We offer an unique melding of forums, pictures and file uploads that's powerful, flexible and purpose-built to make finding and sharing easy and fast. We also help friends keep in touch, individuals find groups and vice-versa, and investigators present their findings. Emailed to all members, activity, events and announcements reach many people quickly. If your group needs more members or is announcing an event, or if you're an individual seeking nearby groups, events or to be involved with investigations, we offer amplification and a good venue for finding and meeting your goals.
Membership is free, and all that's really expected is reasonable, civil participation. BRIEF: ...to help the poor SUMMARY: In November, 1773, an Act for the Relief of the Poor in Baltimore County became law. The Maryland General Assembly passed the act to create an almshouse and workhouse. The County magistrates and justices of the peace were assigned the duty of committing vagrants, beggars, and disorderly people who had no job or trade, or no visible means of support. These people were committed to the Almshouse. People who broke the rules or attempted to run away were subjected to restrictions or elimination of relief benefits. They would also sometimes be whipped and put to hard labor. BRIEF: Old Indian battles left unsettled spirits SUMMARY: Queen Anne's County was the first English settlement in the State of Maryland. In 1627 the Governor of Virginia authorized William Clayborne to locate a site on the Chesapeake Bay to set up a trading post. William Clayborne selected the island of Kent Narrows to set up a trading post. BRIEF: Under the spiritual shadow of a hanging SUMMARY: The courthouse was built in 1708.
There were a number of hangings on the front lawn of the courthouse back in those times. People believe the old courthouse is haunted by some spirits of those who were hung there. People have heard footsteps in the building and have reported strange feelings when they walk across the lawn. BRIEF: The Historic Hilltop House Hotel in Harpers Ferry includes some unusual guests SUMMARY: Built in 1888 by African American proprietor Thomas S. Lovett, the hotel, built on a hilltop provides a splendid view of Harpers Ferry, WV and the Potomac river. The hotel, which still hosts guests even today has a long history including some tragedy events. Employees and guest alike have experienced the paranormal within the confines of this aging hotel.
UPDATE: The Hilltop House Hotel closed in February 2008 for substantial renovations at the direction of the hotel's new owners. Currently the hotel is scheduled to re-open sometime in 2010. SUMMARY: This home was built in 1850 and has tunnels and catacombs running under the homes that go down to the river. Lots 1 and 2 of the original town plat were set aside by the trustees in 1777 for a German church and two other houses. There is no indication that any structures were built. It was variously known as the Dutch, German or Lutheran Cemetery.The body of Doctor Samuel Crawford, victim of a postwar lynching in 1876, was buried there. In 1888, two men reported seeing the ghost of Crawford standing over his grave in the old Dutch graveyard BRIEF: Various apparitions from long ago. SUMMARY: The Chaney House was used as a hospital during the Battle of Funkstown in the Civil War. People who have worked in this home have reported strange happenings. BRIEF: Local legends tell of Indian spirits in these woods. SUMMARY: The woods of Angus Mountain are said to be haunted by Indians who were killed there. SUMMARY: Before the dam was built the area was a popular swimming hole. Many people drowned in the river, however, with reports dating back into the early 1700's. Then the dam was built, and apparently more than a few people committed suicide there.
The reservoir near the dam is also a location where people have dropped off dead bodies over the years. |
