Documentation
"We foster an environment of constructive peer review, the philosophy being the more active members out there thinking, observing and collecting evidence, the more likely someone is to produce something substantial and the more we all collectively learn. Another way to look at it: Every family has an eccentric member or two; we're the place where all those folks can collectively hang out and feel at home."
Haunts Database
BRIEF: The Gettysburg National Cemetery was established on the battleground near the center of the Union line. To this day it is reportedly haunted by many soldiers that lost their lives during the battle of Gettysburg. SUMMARY: Apparitions of soldiers are seen aimlessly wandering around the grounds. BRIEF: 27 Miners perished and doomed Mansfield to mining infamy SUMMARY: "Suddenly, a few minutes after nine, there was a loud report and an overpowering rush of water, and the men felt themselves being overwhelmed by an avalanche of mud, ore and water. So fast came the flood that it is doubtful whether the men on the upper levels had time to drop their tools and run for their lives to the old shaft. Had any of them reached the perpendicular opening, however, it would have availed them nothing for the shaft known as 'Old No. 1' collapsed as soon as the water reached and undermined its base. This occurred at precisely half past nine, and it was then known to those in charge of the mine that the men in the upper level had been trapped and drowned like rats by an accident which had long been expected." BRIEF: A former childrens' sanitarium retains young spirits SUMMARY: The Fine Arts building located on Albany Campus is known to be haunted by a number of ghosts. The ghostly apparitions have been heard in the building. The sounds of voices and footsteps have been heard. The building was once a Childrens' Sanitarium. Some people believe the ghosts are some of the children from the facility. BRIEF: Change whatever else you will, but leave the wallpaper the same. SUMMARY: Renovations and old wallpaper appearing out of nowhere might indicate an upset spirit who prefers the original decor. BRIEF: A minor miracle. SUMMARY: The construction of the St. Peter's Catholic Church was begun in 1830 and was completed in 1833. It was the third church to be built in Harper's Ferry. Father Gildea had coordinated the building of an earlier Catholic church which was built in the late 1820's along Shenandoah Street, but it was destroyed by a flood.
The St. Peter's Catholic Church was consecrated on May 5, 1833, by Archbishop Whitefield of Baltimore and assisted by the Rev. John Gildea and two other clergymen from Maryland. The land that the church was built on was donated by Robert Harper. Harper's last will and testament in 1782 donated four acres of land to establishing a Church. BRIEF: Restored to its original beauty in 1987, Kent Manor Inn now features twenty-four luxurious sleeping rooms some occupied by ghosts SUMMARY: The home was built in 1802 and just prior to the Civil War, Alexander Thompson added a first and second floor addition and five smaller rooms on the third floor. In 1988 the home was purchased and turned into an inn. When the owners began working in the inn they were asked by the Thompson family and by employees if they had seen Alexander riding up the driveway on his white horse. They were informed that Alexander is often seen. The owners said they have never seen Alexander on his horse but have experienced many unusual occurrences. Each night the twenty four un-rented rooms are locked only to be found open and unlocked in the morning. One employee saw a man sitting on the bed in room 303, she screamed and ran out of the room and the man disappeared. People who stay in room 209 say they feel someone watching them. The ghost often turns off the TV when people are watching it. The lights turn on and off in room 209. One guest in room 209 complained about a knocking sound that went on all night. BRIEF: Sights and sounds for the employees and clientele alike SUMMARY: Whistling Oyster bar has been featured on TV's America's Most Haunted.
The Whistling Oyster is a bar located in Fells Point and it is known to be haunted by an unknown ghost. Employees have heard footsteps and have seen shadowy images.
