Revelation • Preservation

"Death is the great Teacher, stern, cold, inexorable, irresistible; whom the collected might of the world cannot stay or ward off. The breath, that parting from the lips of King or beggar, scarcely stirs the hushed air, cannot be bought, or brought back for a moment, with the wealth of Empires. What a lesson is this, teaching our frailty and feebleness, and an Infinite Power beyond us! It is a fearful lesson, that never becomes familiar. It walks through the earth in dread mystery, and lays it hands upon all. It is a universal lesson, that is read everywhere and by all men. Its message comes every year and every day. The past years are crowded with its sad and solemn mementoes; and death's finger traces its handwriting upon the walls of every human habitation." --Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma

SUMMARY: The first floor was originally a French outpost in the 1740's. By 1758, General Forbes had used it as an impromptu headquarters during his expedition to take Ft. Duquesne. It was there that he supposedly had a French spy hanged. During the early 1760's it became a tavern with a second-story added. This was then used as a frontier courtroom where several people were hanged. These restless spirits are responsible for a multitude of supernatural activities at the inn. SUMMARY: Newark, General Howe, was on his way to capture Philadelphia and he decided to approach the city from the Chesapeake Bay side of the Delmarva Peninsula rather than to try sailing up the heavily fortified Delaware Bay. Belair Mansion, tree grove

BRIEF: Spirits apparently often misinterpret symbolism.

SUMMARY: A visitor comments: "We were stunned." I personally owned a house on this grove and witnessed first hand the reaction of the spirit world to hanging a rope from a Poplar tree in the grove for a swing. People who visited felt extremely uncomfortable and ill at ease in the grove. A swing was fully moved from hanging straight down to way back, as if someone was there holding up the swing, about to push it mightily. This persisted for about 30 seconds. We were stunned! Immediately my friend assisted me in climbing up this huge tree and cutting down the rope swing. As soon as the rope was down peace and serenity returned to the grove. I have a picture that I took in the grove of what appears to be the slight image of a slave in overalls by the very tree that I had a rope swing.

Embrace uniqueness

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and to see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." --Henry David Thoreau

"When you get old, the only things you remember are the things you dared to do and the things you didn't dare to do. All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue." --P.J.
