It's a large Georgian style mansion house, and it was build in five sections. The Mount Clare Mansion sat in the center of his 800 acre Patapsco River plantation. National TheatreBRIEF: Was John McCullough victim of murderous bullet or insanity? SUMMARY: Famed actor John McCullough was either shot dead (and murderously buried underneath the theatre), or he died in an insane asylum. A body apparently remain, un-exhumed, under the now cemented lowest levels of the theatre, but is it John's? A rusty old gun was uncovered during recent renovations, igniting dispute and imagination all over again. Like the mysteries that surround Edgar Allan Poe's death (and final resting place), this case has all the seeming of a conundrum that is confounding meaning. Meanwhile, it's tough to overstate the historical and ongoing importance of The National Theatre. Arundel Mills MallBRIEF: A large creature near Arundel Mills mall, reported by several witnesses SUMMARY: Three construction workers were sent running from the Arundel Mills mall construction site one morning when they were frightened by a large creature. They ran after they saw a reportedly a 12-foot-tall creature. This creature left large footprints. The workers ran to a nearby restaurant where they called the police. Point Lookout LighthouseBRIEF: Long history, much haunting. SUMMARY: A male ghost soldier, dressed in Civil War attire guards the steps to the lighthouse. Photographed pictures have recorded him leaning against the frame at the door. The land was used as a union hospital and POW camp during the civil war. Several ghosts of soldiers have been seen here. Many people have seen the ghost of a sailor, who was perhaps lost at sea nearby. Castle Hill ManorBRIEF: Wiles here allowed Jefferson's escape. SUMMARY: A flavorful, patriotic history and two ghost in the pink room, aka "ghost central." Printing Office & BinderyBRIEF: Premonition apparition appears a few days before a fire SUMMARY: An apparition of a badly burnt man appeared to a Colonial Williamsburg employee while he was working in the printing office. A few days later there was a fire in the printing shop and the employee escaped without injury. Grey Fox InnBRIEF: Ghostly dog appendages. Best Middle SchoolBRIEF: A girl's hanging caused this school's right wing to be closed SUMMARY: The haunting spirit of a young girl who hung herself in a bathroom some years ago reportedly caused the entire right wing of this school to be closed off. McDaniel EstateBRIEF: "I now understand the meaning of being scared stiff." SUMMARY: From the distant woods, a ghostly light approached this couple and scared them plain away. Mordington MansionBRIEF: Jump! SUMMARY: This mansion is haunted by a ghostly woman. The sound of a woman's "death cry" is heard in this old mansion. The ghost is reportedly that of a young slave girl who jumped to her death from the attic window to escape her master. The young girl is known as Tom's Daughter. She jumped from the window to escape sexual advances from her master. Her erie screams are still heard today. National Building MuseumBRIEF: Soldiers stick around SUMMARY: This building, used during the Civil War, is where the soldiers came to collect their pension. The old building is thought to be haunted by ghostly soldiers. Soldiers have been seen arriving "mounted, on horseback" to the building. The building's designer, Montgomery Meigs, also haunts the building. His face has been seen at the top of the marble columns in the building's great hall. Former Statehouse BuildingBRIEF: The ghost of Queen Lili'uokalani haunts Hawaii's State Capitol Building SUMMARY: Built during the reign of King Kamehameha V (completed in 1882) it replaced a former one-story bulding constructed of coral block. It served as the official residence of the Hawaiian monarch until it was overthrown in 1893. At that time the building became the statehouse of the new Provisional Government of Hawaii. The building is said to be haunted by the spirit of Queen Lili'uokalani the last monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii. |
