In 1989, two chemists announced that they produced nuclear reactions and thermal energy under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure using electrochemistry. They were Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons. The reactions were termed "cold fusion," even though no one really knew then with confidence that nuclear reactions were occurring. Their novel experimental results were at odds with hot fusion data and were not supported by theory. Condensed Matter Nuclear Science, originally known as cold fusion, has been studied by thousands of scientists globally since the field began in 1989. The experimental evidence for the ability to induce nuclear reactions at low energies and temperatures is very strong although the mechanisms for the nuclear reactions are not yet understood.
The purpose of this scientific conference is to present and discuss new results on low energy nuclear reactions (LENR), which originally went by the name "cold fusion." The production of unexpectedly large amounts of excess heat in metals heavily loaded with hydrogen is also called the Fleischmann-Pons Effect.

BRIEF: Site of Civil War Prison haunted by former prisoners SUMMARY: The village of Andersonville, GA was selected as the site of Civil War era prison for captured Union soldiers. The prisons construction began in January of 1864 when slaves from local farms were pressed into service to fell trees and dig ditches for the prison stockade. Prisoners began to arrive in late February 1864 and eventually built to a population of over 33,000 Union prisoners held on 26.5 acres. Near the site of the prison are the graves of nearly 13,000 Union soldiers who died while at Andersonville. The tortured souls of fallen soldiers continue to haunt the place of their imprisonment. |

They hear voices and sense movement, shuffling sounds coming from "the stacks" after no one should be there. Reports have been made by numerous employees over years of time. Carroll County was created in 1837 by an act of state legislature which made Westminster the County Seat. The legislature built a number of government buildings, including an almshouse for the poor which was built between 1852 and 1853. The Almshouse was called the County Home. The Almshouse purpose was to house the poor people of Carroll County. People who were insane or criminals also stayed at the Almshouse. For the insane, the the rooms had barred windows and metal-lined walls. |

BRIEF: A labor of love, once lost, now reclaimed SUMMARY: Millionaire George C. Boldt owned the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. Perhaps a bit eccentric, or at least with a dramatic flair, Boldt built a true-to-form Rhineland Castle on his private, five-acre Heart Island in Alexandria Bay. With 120 rooms, the fabulous Boldt Castle was modeled after authentic German castles and architecture. The castle was at least partly meant to convey his love and devotion to his wife. No doubt it was to be there special retreat. |

BRIEF: Numerous drownings in this lake have resulted in at least one haunting. SUMMARY: The lake is known to be haunted. People have reported seeing balls of light. People report that they have heard strange and eerie noises in the woods. The noises are often heard just inside the treeline along the water edge. People claim that you can still see bubbles rising to the surface of the water. |
BRIEF: Old Plantation House on MNCPPC Property SUMMARY: Old Plantation house, unsure of exact background or history. On MNCPPC property. Currently the head office of the company I work for. While working late there I heard noises come from the basement. I thought it was mice or something but I went down to investigate. I saw an amorphous, translucent, dark blob slowly moving across the floor away from me. I have also heard "breathing" sounds coming from a sealed chimney. Co-workers have had similar experiences and have heard noises and steps coming from the attic where old files and boxes are stored. No one wants to be the last to leave or to work late. We are moving into a new office, so this house will be vacant. It is on MNCPPC property in the 8000 block of Snouffer School Road. You may be considered a trespasser if you go onto the site so check in with the MNCPPC before going onto the site. Very bucolic location just inside Gaithersburg sprawl. Others claim to have seen shapes and odd lights on the grounds around the old plantation though I have not experienced this. |
BRIEF: Ghostly couple dances the minuet SUMMARY: Family owned by several generations and used as a school, this old mansion now reportedly hosts an apparition couple which dances the minuet to whatever music plays at parties. |
BRIEF: An Indian curse for crashing. SUMMARY: The Park is haunted by a strange ghost light. People in boats have sometimes mistaken the ghost light for a lighthouse. There is a legend that goes with the ghost light. The legend is about Indians placing a curse upon the English: to make their ships crash upon the shore. Subsequently, there have been a number of ships which have crashed on the shore. The British sloop, the Daybreak, reportedly crashed because of this ghost light. |
BRIEF: Something otherworldly on the 7th and 8th floors haunts this hotel SUMMARY: The Hotel Chamberlain is reportedly haunted by a ghostly woman. An apparition having long light brown hair has been seen in the hotel, dressed in white, and partially glowing.
A catastrophic fire burned the building. Cleanup and reconstruction workers, it's said, frequently encountered the ghostly spirit of a young girl. She was seen mostly on the 7th floor. The hotel has problems with the sounds of banging noises coming from behind walls. |

"Surveys, such as the one conducted in 1996 by Gallup of a nationally representative sample of Americans, continue to show a high degree of belief, interest and involvement in a variety of paranormal and religious related phenomena among the general population. For example, 48 percent believed in the possibility of extra-sensory perception (ESP), 45 percent believe that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) have already visited Earth, and 56 and 72 per cent believed in the reality of the devil and angels, respectively (Gallup, 1997). In fact, these numbers have actually gone up since the surveys first started (Gallup and Newport, 1991) and other surveys amongst university and college students have yielded similar results (e.g. Messer and Griggs, 1989). Perhaps due to the widespread existence of such beliefs, the investigation of personality correlates of paranormal and particularly religious belief has received considerable attention in recent years, but little attention was given to both simultaneously." --Chris Huntley, 2005 Ph.D. thesis, Correlation of Paranormal Beliefs, Religious Beliefs and Personality

4 years, 5 months, 14 days, 7 hours, 57 minutes, 2 seconds until the Mayan end of Age. December 21 2012 (11:11am GMT)— The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11 UTC. --wikipedia . See also "The Earth is degenerating today. Bribery and corruption abound. Children no longer obey their parents, every man wants to write a book, and it is evident that the end of the world is fast approaching." --Assyrian Tablet "When you get old, the only things you remember are the things you dared to do and the things you didn't dare to do. All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue." (P.J. Gaenir's grandfather) Dare! Chance favors the bold. | |
