BRIEF: What's eerier than a ghost ship by torchlight? SUMMARY: A ghost ship haunts the Rappahannock River. The shadowy craft will appear sailing down the river and people believe that it is a spirit transformed.
The first recorded appearance of the ghost ship was shortly after the Civil War. It appeared on the night of a Democratic rally meeting at Tappahannock. The people were gathered for the meeting enjoying music, refreshments and speeches. A man in the crowd yelled out to call attention to the most unusual ship. Some people walked down to shore and held their torches aloft as the ship came drifting down stream. BRIEF: The hauntings of a dead girl's caretaker. SUMMARY: The Inn is haunted by a ghost named Caroline. She likes to open and closed the curtains and windows. The Innkeeper has problems with the room keys disappearing and turning up in the room affectionately known as Caroline's room. A little girl died in that room decades ago. People believe that Caroline was the child's nurse. The house is located at 531 Thornrose Avenue. For more information call 540-885-6458. BRIEF: Children of the field. SUMMARY: Witnesses report hearing childrens' screams, and sometimes late in the evening, people have seen a small girl running through the nearby field. This is the site of the P.
