BRIEF: A mother depressed jettisons the infant SUMMARY: A depressed mother had a baby that was badly deformed. She did not know how to care for the baby so she took it to the bridge and threw it into the river.

BRIEF: Several ghosts haunt this old institution SUMMARY: The ghost of Marie Mount allegedly plays the piano on stormy nights in the hall named for her, and members of the Maryland Ghosts and Spirits Association detected the presence of several other spirits in Marie Mount Hall during an investigation in October 2002. Larry Donnelly, a former Dining Services employee, spotted a female ghost in the Rossborough Inn in 1981, during renovations to the building. Several weeks later, a waiter at the Inn saw the same woman, dressed in yellow, as Donnelly had described. Spirits have also been detected in Morrill Hall, and ghosts are rumored to inhabit Easton Hall, the Stamp Student Union, H. J. Patterson Hall, and the Alpha Omicron Pi and Kappa Delta sorority houses. BRIEF: An old victorian mansion now a well known Bed & Breakfast SUMMARY: The building is now a nine-bedroom Inn; however, it is known to be haunted by a number of ghosts. One room is haunted by a young couple. When the couple appears they look "solid," as in real [uncommon for ghostly appearances, and it may indicate a recent and strong energy]. Guests who have come into contact with the couple have thought that the couple were also guests of the Inn. That's pretty real. People think that the couple has accidentally entered the wrong room until the couple vanish in front of their faces. BRIEF: DC's first and only public hospital SUMMARY: The area occupied by the DC General Hospital today, defined by Independence Avenue, 19th Street, SE, and the Anacostia River, has been the site of a number of public health facilities since the mid-19th century.
The Washington Infirmary, the first public hospital established in 1806, was moved here in 1846. By then it was called the Washington Asylum and housed the city's indigent patients. It also served as a work house for people convicted of minor crimes. |
