This is the location where John Brown attempted to start a slave uprising in the South. Brown came to Harper's Ferry to seize the 100,000 muskets kept in the federal arsenal. Harper's Ferry was strategically located as it was on both low and high ground at a key juncture of two rivers (Potomac and Shenandoah) and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.
