The farm was the home of a doctor who treated travelers and patients in the surrounding area. The home is said to be haunted by a number of restless ghostly spirits: The ghosts of two young children who died at the home in the 19th century are haunting the house. The ghostly children have been seen by workers and people visiting the farm. BRIEF: She keeps her promise, at summer's solstice, every seven years SUMMARY: Chatham mansion was built in 1771 by William Fitzhugh. He named it after one of his classmates, Sir William Pitt, who was the Earl of Chatham.
During the Civil War the mansion was used as Union headquarters. Walt Whitman and Clara Barton nursed the Union wounded in the house.
Notables from our early history visited the house, including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and the Marquis de Lafayette. BRIEF: A place for the poor.
