"We foster an environment of constructive peer review, the philosophy being the more active members out there thinking, observing and collecting evidence, the more likely someone is to produce something substantial and the more we all collectively learn. Another way to look at it: Every family has an eccentric member or two; we're the place where all those folks can collectively hang out and feel at home."

BRIEF: No trace remains SUMMARY: In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the stretch of F Street from the Department of Treasury (just east of the White House) to 6th Street, NW, was a fashionable district of Washington. A few of the early medical establishments were also located here. Georgetown University Medical Department occupied a building next to the corner of F and 12th Streets from 1851 to 1868.
The Medical Hall, the first headquarters of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia, was built in 1868 near the corner of F and 10th Streets. Dr. Robert King Stone (1822-1872), a prominent Washington physician, lived and maintained his office in a large house at the corner of F and 14th Streets. He was President Abraham Lincoln's doctor. BRIEF: Was John McCullough victim of murderous bullet or insanity? SUMMARY: Famed actor John McCullough was either shot dead (and murderously buried underneath the theatre), or he died in an insane asylum. A body apparently remain, un-exhumed, under the now cemented lowest levels of the theatre, but is it John's?
A rusty old gun was uncovered during recent renovations, igniting dispute and imagination all over again. Like the mysteries that surround Edgar Allan Poe's death (and final resting place), this case has all the seeming of a conundrum that is confounding meaning.
Meanwhile, it's tough to overstate the historical and ongoing importance of The National Theatre. BRIEF: Mary Reynolds just won't give up the ghost. SUMMARY: William Reynolds built the Georgian-style, 3-story tavern in 1747, and he became the first tavern keeper; however, it's had many uses over the years. A cashier who worked at Farmers National Bank lived in the old Tavern From 1812 to 1935. The Tavern housed the Anne Arundel County Library from 1936 to 1957. The National Trust for Historic preservation then purchased the building. SUMMARY: An old slave plantation that local people say is haunted.
