Psy-ops "combined to redefine the parameters of acceptable discourse in America. Principal among the notions placed beyond the Pale was the practice and theory of "conspiracism" -- which soon came to include criticism of mainstream reportage. More than a matter of seeing cabals behind every murder, it was a way of thinking, a stance toward the networks, the press and the feds. Anyone who looked too deeply into events, or who asked too many questions, was dismissed as "a conspiracy theorist." (This, after MK-ULTRA, Iran-Contra, BCCI, and the destruction of the World Trade Centers.) In some ways, it is as if the century itself has been encrypted, so that if an historian would be honest, he must also become an investigative reporter. Failing that, we are left at the mercy of ambitious academicians and journalists, stenographers to power who are themselves complicit in an astonishing string of cover-ups and atrocities that stretch from Dealy Plaza to Watergate, Waco to 9/11." --Peter Levenda
Haunts Database
BRIEF: Trench connecting Union forts. SUMMARY: The woods are reportedly haunted; the sounds of soldiers and horses have been heard in the woods. The school was used as a Union hospital. People have reported hearing the sounds of screaming coming from the building. It is said that the screams are phantasms of soldiers wounded long ago. SUMMARY: Opened in December 1862, Lincoln General was the largest of the military hospitals in the area built by the Army to take care of the Civil War casualties. It was located on Capitol Hill, 15 blocks east of the Capitol building. The hospital complex included 20 pavilions, arranged in two lines forming a V, and 25 tent wards, which provided altogether a bed capacity of 2,575. The kitchen and dining rooms were connected to the pavilions by means of a covered pathway. In addition to the headquarters (marked by the flag), there were officers quarters, quarters for Sisters who provided nursing service, barracks, guard house, separate quarters for contrabands, and service facilities such as water tank, laundry, barber shop, carpenter shop, stables and a morgue ("Dead House"). Like most other military hospitals, Lincoln General was taken down shortly after the Civil War. The area once occupied by Lincoln General is now a residental district. BRIEF: DC's first public hospital SUMMARY: In 1806, the first public hospital in Washington was established in a square between 6th and 7th Streets, and M and N Streets, NW. Called Washington Infirmary, it provided for "the poor, disabled, and infirm persons." In 1842, Congress authorized the conversion of the old jail in the Judiciary Square into a hospital for disabled seamen and soldiers and the insane. Two years later, however, Congress decided that the building was not suitable for that purpose and assigned it to the medical faculty of Columbian College (later became George Washington University). BRIEF: Ghostly orbs inhabit this old mansion. SUMMARY: People have seen ghostly orbs moving through the old mansion. The ghostly image of a woman and a small boy has been seen walking in the house. The house is located at 4650 Germantown Road. FMI 215-843-3388.
