BRIEF: The Historic Hilltop House Hotel in Harpers Ferry includes some unusual guests SUMMARY: Built in 1888 by African American proprietor Thomas S. Lovett, the hotel, built on a hilltop provides a splendid view of Harpers Ferry, WV and the Potomac river. The hotel, which still hosts guests even today has a long history including some tragedy events. Employees and guest alike have experienced the paranormal within the confines of this aging hotel.
UPDATE: The Hilltop House Hotel will be closing in February 2008 for substantial renovations at the direction of the hotel's new owners. Currently the hotel is scheduled to re-open sometime in 2010. BRIEF: Up to 70 unmarked graves of Civil War soldiers and others SUMMARY: Eyewitness reports describe graves in the vicinity, most lost to time, neglect and development. Reported residual energy manifestations include shadows, moans and "dreadful" feelings. BRIEF: A Childrens' Clinic is now haunted by young spirits SUMMARY: The house was owned by the first mayor of Danville who later sold it to the seventh mayor. It is the oldest building in Danville. Around the Civil War the house was used as a "children's clinic". BRIEF: Haunted B & B SUMMARY: John Spencer built the house in 1896. He was a businessman in the town, and he needed a home in which to entertain his business associates. The house is now a Bed and Breakfast Inn. BRIEF: College dormitory SUMMARY: Dormitory supposedly haunted. Was alone in my 2 room dorm room one night (roommates had gone out). Turned off all of the electronics, as had become our room's schedule every night. Locked front door, went to bed in back. Talking to roommates, who were hanging out in Times Square on the phone, when stereo came on in the front room. Went out to check on it, turned it off, turned off power in the surge protector, too. Back to bedroom, just in time to have TV and lava lamp turn on. Turned them off and the surge protector they were on. Back to bedroom, got comfy and a bit sleepy, when stereo in the front room came on at full volume. Ran up to front, turned it off, unplugged it. Back to bed - as soon as I was comfortable, ALL of the electronics in the front room came on. Ran to the front, unlocked the (still) locked door and went to sleep across the hall. After that, we had problems with electronics coming on and off in the rooms at random times, itmes moving from the places they were put - and I had a OCD roommate who had to have everything put away in its place at all times. Never could find out who or what the entity was that was making life in 3D so much fun. |
