BRIEF: Her evil induced a town to change its name. SUMMARY: Just across the state line from Delaware, reads a sign along Route 392: Patty Cannon's House at Johnson's Crossroads where the noted kidnapping group had their headquarters as described in George Townsend's novel, "The Entailed Hat." The house borders on Caroline and Dorchester Counties and the state of Delaware.
Patty began her life of crime in the early 1800's when she became the leader of a gang that was organized to kidnap free blacks . They would then sell the slaves into the black slavery market. She was a very large woman who had immense strength. She was ruthless and no one was brave enough to challenge her. BRIEF: An old hotel. Haunted. SUMMARY: The hotel is a 1895 Victorian hotel located in downtown Berlin. It is only seven miles from Ocean City. The hotel has 16 sleeping rooms. The room are furnished with antiques. BRIEF: Mary Reynolds just won't give up the ghost. SUMMARY: William Reynolds built the Georgian-style, 3-story tavern in 1747, and he became the first tavern keeper; however, it's had many uses over the years. A cashier who worked at Farmers National Bank lived in the old Tavern From 1812 to 1935. The Tavern housed the Anne Arundel County Library from 1936 to 1957. The National Trust for Historic preservation then purchased the building. |
