BRIEF: A voice or a growl SUMMARY: Ellicott City was once called Ellicott Mill.
The town was formed in 1771 and named after the Ellicott brothers' mill. It has many haunted places.
Two boys were in the town's old graveyard and report being shushed away by someone which apparently did not want them bothering the dead: An adult voice told them to go away, followed by icy gusts. BRIEF: Halloween tours and apparitions SUMMARY: Built by Confederate POW labor when Washington was threatened by Confederate General Early's raid, and a prison break was feared. It is the only surviving fortification of three that guarded Camp Hoffman (2), the stockaded POW camp established in 1863. It is a small four-sided earthen fort with four reconstructed buildings, and the remains of a powder magazine. It is located on the Potomac River side of the peninsula. The war ended before construction was complete. |
