BRIEF: Once a presidential wedding gift, now haunted. SUMMARY: The plantation was the home of George Washington's foster daughter, Eleanor Park Custis --the land was a wedding present. Dr. William Thornton, the first architect of the Capitol, designed the mansion house.
The Woodlawn Plantation Manor House is haunted by a number of ghosts. The gift shop has a water well located in the floor. It is kept tightly closed at all times. Some believe that it is a "doorway" for the ghosts. BRIEF: Underground Railroad and other history have left spirits behind SUMMARY: The Belmont House was built in 1738. It sits on 82 acres of land. The mansion was built by Caleb Dorsey but is now owned by the American Chemical Society.
The "Belmont Conference" is an old estate that has been converted into a conference center. Workers at the conference center have heard the sounds of horses race up the long driveway; then, a knock is often heard at the front door. But, no one is ever there.
