"Death is the great Teacher, stern, cold, inexorable, irresistible; whom the collected might of the world cannot stay or ward off. The breath, that parting from the lips of King or beggar, scarcely stirs the hushed air, cannot be bought, or brought back for a moment, with the wealth of Empires. What a lesson is this, teaching our frailty and feebleness, and an Infinite Power beyond us! It is a fearful lesson, that never becomes familiar. It walks through the earth in dread mystery, and lays it hands upon all. It is a universal lesson, that is read everywhere and by all men. Its message comes every year and every day. The past years are crowded with its sad and solemn mementoes; and death's finger traces its handwriting upon the walls of every human habitation." --Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma

BRIEF: Devilish duo, buried facing downwards. SUMMARY: They say a long time ago there was a witch and a warlock buried in the church cemetery, and their tombs are "turned upside down," meaning the pair are buried facing downwards into the earth. They say if you go up there late at night you will see glowing lights in the woods and hear strange noises. Accounts of sightings there span the years. BRIEF: Campfires SUMMARY: Several reenactors noticed a small campfire burning on a section of the field outside of the company street where no one had been assigned. BRIEF: 'Don't tell the kids.' SUMMARY: Chris O. wrote:
"480x 46th St NW- I lived in this house for five years (until I was 12). I was rather young but years later while living in Bethesda my father (super skeptic) shared with me that the house was very haunted and he spared us the details due to our young ages. The house is quite old and two elderly sisters had lived there and passed before we bought it. Each night pacing and footsteps coming up and down the old wooden stairs could be heard without fail." BRIEF: The house of an important legislator. SUMMARY: William Paca's Mansion was built between 1763 and 1765. Though Mr. Paca died in 1799, some say his mansion is haunted by his ghostly apparition which often stands at the top of the main staircase. BRIEF: Made by a rich Belgian. SUMMARY: The Calvert Mansion is also known as the Riverdale Mansion. It was built in 1801 by Henri Stier who was a rich Belgian. Henri had a daughter named Rosalie. She married George Calvert. George was a relative on the family that helped found Maryland.
