"Death is the great Teacher, stern, cold, inexorable, irresistible; whom the collected might of the world cannot stay or ward off. The breath, that parting from the lips of King or beggar, scarcely stirs the hushed air, cannot be bought, or brought back for a moment, with the wealth of Empires. What a lesson is this, teaching our frailty and feebleness, and an Infinite Power beyond us! It is a fearful lesson, that never becomes familiar. It walks through the earth in dread mystery, and lays it hands upon all. It is a universal lesson, that is read everywhere and by all men. Its message comes every year and every day. The past years are crowded with its sad and solemn mementoes; and death's finger traces its handwriting upon the walls of every human habitation." --Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma

BRIEF: Footsteps and cold spots succeed a suicidal monk SUMMARY: This complex was a monastery before becoming a college. A monk hung himself on the third floor of one building. BRIEF: See "In Dreams" SUMMARY: Warren was once a small city in Maryland. The state of Maryland paid one million dollars to the citizen of Warren to purchase their homes and land. Maryland purchased the land that would be covered by the Loch Raven Reservoir behind a new dam on the gunpowder river. BRIEF: The Tome School was a college preparatory school, and is said to be haunted by some of students who died while they were attending the school. SUMMARY: The Tome School was a college preparatory school. The school was able to charge a lower tuition than other independent schools because of the funding provided by Jacob Tome. Many students who were sent to school died because of illness and many died in childhood. There was no penicillin in those day so many people died from common illness.
The school is haunted by some of students who died while they were attending the school. BRIEF: The only building to survive the civil war, and someone who clearly didn't. BRIEF: 200+ wrecked vessels and some ghostly crew. SUMMARY: Arguably one of the most treacherous points for navigation is where the Potomac River meets the Chesapeake Bay. More than two hundred shipwrecks sit on the bottom of Mallow's Bay. Some are partially exposed in the shallow waters. To get to Mallows Bay, you can take a boat down the Potomac River, and travel thirty miles south of Washington, D.C. As you round the bend at Sandy Point, you will be entering Mallows Bay.
Mallows Bay is a ghostly region where the remains of many shipwrecks rest. An extremely jagged and precipitous bottom couples with capriciously wild tides at this tidewater confluence where the Potomac River empties into the saltier Chesapeake Bay. A historical maritime survey and evaluation was started by a grant from the State of Maryland. They did an evaluation of the historical maritime artifacts existing in Mallows Bay.
