BRIEF: Death and drowning... SUMMARY: The Loy's Station covered bridge was built around 1860 by the Loy family. The family owned the feed mill and post office at Loy's Station, which was a small community with a railroad station.
The original bridge was modified in 1929. New steel beams were installed to replace the original wooden beams and the lateral bracing under the wooden floor. The bridge was destroyed by arson in 1991. Volunteers restored the bridge using timbers salvaged from the old bridge.
During the Civil War the Union and Confederate Armies marched through Frederick and Thurmont on their way to Gettysburg and Antietam. Many small skirmishes took place around Frederick and Thurmont. The soldiers often camped near covered bridges for protective cover and usually water for their horses.
The covered bridges are reportedly haunted by the soldiers who died there and by people that drowned in the water below.
The bridge is located on Old Frederick Road, in Creagerstown. BRIEF: A creepy, rotting old cabin set back in the woods adjacent to a summer camp SUMMARY: Cropsey's cabin is a rotting old cabin set about 30 yards into the woods adjacent to what was a thriving summer camp. Local legend had it that Cropsey was a one-armed loner who may or may not have murdered two young boys who were camping in nearby woods. On occasion, what sounded like moans could be heard from the vicinity of the cabin, and rustling noises were also reported. BRIEF: Whistling Luke got cut. SUMMARY: When old hands die badly and the government takes your land, what then? BRIEF: Bathroom suicide leaves ghost SUMMARY: The hospital is haunted by a patient who committed suicide in a bathroom. People have heard moaning coming from the bathroom when it is empty. Other strange things happen here such as doors opening and closing and ghostly footsteps walking down the hall.
