Ammendale Normal Institute

Beltsville, Prince Georges County, Maryland
AKA: Christian Brothers; Ammen Institute; Amen Institute

BRIEF: "...a retirement home for old and dying priests."

SUMMARY: Some local residents in and around Beltsville, Maryland have reported seeing mysterious spirits of cloaked monks in and around an old mansion. That mansion, the Ammen Institute, was owned by a Catholic organization from about 1900. It reportedly "looks like a place that should be haunted."

O'Donnel Heights Phantom

BRIEF: A phantom menace over Baltimore.

SUMMARY: Baltimore's area newspapers, including the Evening Sun, printed reports about a community that was in a panic over a phantom stalker. The legend of the O'Donnell Heights phantom is a Baltimore story that dates back to the summer of 1951 when numerous people reported dozens of sightings of the phantom over a three-week period.

Gypsy Rider

BRIEF: A ghostly white stallion, a gypsy and the girl

SUMMARY: Every year during the month of August a ghostly white stallion gallops over the Drawbridge. Two riders, it is said, are a gypsy man and his beautiful lover, a couple reunited after their deaths. The man was killed in the 19th century by the woman's seven brothers who had disapproved of her pending marriage to the gypsy. The gypsy man put a curse over the seven brothers. He said that the brothers would die mysteriously. Over the next years, one brother died each year until remained. The brothers died as predicted by the gyspy. In the eighth year after the curse the women went into a coma and died shortly after. In the early 1900s her ghost appear and was seen riding with her old lover on the white horse.

Chesapeake Bay -

BRIEF: Nessie's cousin

SUMMARY: Many areas of the world have stories about sea creatures, and Maryland has one of it own. "Chessie" has been haunting the Chesapeake Bay for over twenty years. Maryland and Virginia newspapers have documented reports of a huge, snake-like animal that has been seen in the Chesapeake Bay and in its larger tributaries. Chessie is described as a serpentine that is at least twenty-five to forty feet in length, eight to ten inches in diameter, with a football-shaped head. The creature is dark color and has no fins.
