BRIEF: Added insult to injury. SUMMARY: This ghost story goes back to the days of the slave trade. Slaves were brought to The Brokerage, an area where slaves were sold at Auction in Baltimore's harbor. The Brokerage is the site were the auction house was located. Numerous slaves were sold on this spot, probably thousands. BRIEF: An old bricklayer is spotted amidst an history of hauntings SUMMARY: The house was built in 1815 by Upton Beall who was the Clerk of the Court for Montgomery County. The Beall-Dawson House was, at that time, larger and more impressive than the other houses in town.
Jane Robb Beall was Beall's wife. She was daughter of one of Rockville's tavern owners. They had three daughters, Jane, Mathilda and Margaret.
A ghostly apparition has been seen in this house. The second floor of the house was the slave quarters and about six to eight household slaves lived in the main house. The house sat on nearly seventy acres of fields and orchards, and other slaves were needed to maintain the land and farm animals. BRIEF: Many slaves leave many ghosts SUMMARY: Montpelier Mansion is a fine example of 18th-century Georgian architecture. The home was built around 1783 by Major. Thomas Snowden. He was an officer in the Revolutionary Army. His family operated an ironworks.
Snowden liked to entertain guests, some of whom were George Washington and Abigail Adams, the wife of John Adams. Abigail had once described the mansion as, "a handsome, elegant home." SUMMARY: A man named Daniel Cresap was killed on top of the mountain in an Indian battle. People say that he is still haunting this area. |
