Details, History

This park's historical significance is its connection with the largest invasion of the United States in history on the morning of September 12, 1814. The British had landed about seven thousand men near the site that later became Fort Howard, as a part of a campaign to capture and burn Baltimore. In coordination with their navy's bombardment of Fort McHenry, the British troops were to march up Patapsco Neck and capture Baltimore from the east. But the British advance was first demoralized when American sharpshooters Daniel Wells and Henry McComas killed their popular commanding general. The advance had been temporarily stalled by the Americans in the Battle of North Point, and finally stopped dead when the British perceived the strength of the American defenses at Patterson Park. Disheartened, they re-boarded their ships near North Point and sailed away- to another defeat, in the Battle of New Orleans.

Fort Howard was originally known as North Point, but was renamed in 1902 after Colonel John Eager Howard, a Baltimore philanthropist and distinguished soldier of the Maryland Continental Line during the Revolutionary War. In the 1700's, the site served as an important part of the transportation route between the Eastern Shore and the port of Baltimore. Known as the "Bulldog at Baltimore's Gate", Fort Howard was also created to protect the valued Baltimore Port. Many of the fort batteries, previously manned by Coast Artillery Corps, can still be seen, although they are now covered by dark ivy and bushes.
The farm dates back before the war of 1812. This home has been the site of many hauntings. In the attic window a ghostly woman can sometimes be seen with a candle waiting for her soldier to come home from the war, but he never does. Late at night people have reported that they sometimes see slaves hanging from the trees.
The family cemetery is located directly behind the house. There is no electricity in the house but it has been reported that if an intruder enters, lights will turn on.
Many spirits have been reported haunting this home, many spirits are not at rest here.
A ghostly torso has been seen floating around the larger of the two barracks by many people. People get the feeling that they are being watched. No one know who the ghostly apparition is or why he is haunting the barracks.

I have never outright seen anything in Fort Howard...but everytime I am in those woods I get a strong sense of forboding...and I always feel like I am being watched.
The dungeons at fort howard are also haunted. Moanings sound can be heard and the torso of a soldier is also seen floating through the dungeons.
Went there today, got some really good pics. I have always s skeptic when someone posts a pic with an orb or ectoplasm. That is until today. We were exploring some of the tunnels and taking some pics. It was not until we put the pics on the computer that we saw the mist. Check out the pics.
well i tried to go to fort howard tonight but unfortunately there was a complete fire brigade at the pizza shop right outside of the park so therefore no where to park at..if anybody knows a good place to park..please post!
To reach Ft. Howard, you take North Point Blvd until the circle then take the circle to Ft. Howard Park Road and follow that down.
I grew up in Edgemere, right up the road from FT Howard. A friend on mine's mother used to be the care taker there. He used to tell me that at night he could hear what sounded like people crying for help. One night he was out front of the house and swore he saw a soldier walk right in front of him and just vanish. I never had an expierence at the park like that but i always felt like there was something watching me when ever i was there. Right up the road though at Tods Farm when i was driving by one night i saw a woman in the attic window even though tha last person to live in the house was a teacher from Sparrows Point High who hung him self in the living room in the 1970's or 80's.
where is this house located exactlly. the one in the picture looks like the vet.'s hospital on the hospital. someone said somehting out it being located in the woods? can someonw give me anymore more information about the house.
This area has so much history. We've been here a few times and took some pics. There's alot of ice cold spot's. We could also hear whispering in some area's.

we have gone here once before ,, but you can not get into any side building, u can only get to fort
A few friends and I went over to Todd's Farm, which is right up the street from Fort Howard, and supposedly haunted itself. Not 10 seconds after we had parked the car and were getting our equipment ready to go, a cop pulled up and ruined our potential investigation. We're attempting to get permission to investigate there, but we don't know who to contact. Does anybody know who the owner of Todd's Farm/Inheritance is?
