SUMMARY: The Eleanor House is a large two-story house that was white and primly trimmed with green. The house sat on a acre of land that had huge elm trees and a big garden of roses. The house had four bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom including a sky light and beautifully-carved banisters.

SUMMARY: The Cosden family was murdered in their home by a burglar in 1851. The entire family was killed.

SUMMARY: A following train collides with an accidentally separated caboose, despite the signalman's frantic lantern waving. Phantom lights began soon after the accident and have been seen fairly regularly since.

SUMMARY: Leadbetters is know to harbor a number of ghosts within it's walls. One ghost, that of a young man who is believed to have been the victim of a Shanghai which went wrong and the young man was killed and dumped in the alley behind the building which would become Leadbetters over 100 years later. The other ghostly resident of Leadbetters is that of a malevolent man, who once lived on the second floor in the 1970s.

SUMMARY: The Canonsburg Subway is said to have been built partly on an old nursing home.

SUMMARY: In the early 1900's, three unemployed miners from the small mining town of Hastings apparently heard of a widow having a large amount of jewelry and money. They thought stealing it from her would be easy. The robbery from the widow's house led to one of the three bandits being shot in the arm by the widow's eldest son.

SUMMARY: The Courthouse Square office building was built on the site of the old county jail, which was used from the early 1900's until the 1960's. In the early 1900's the building was the location of several executions by hanging. Several hauntings seemingly accompany this fact.

SUMMARY: The house was owned by the first mayor of Danville who later sold it to the seventh mayor. It is the oldest building in Danville. Around the Civil War the house was used as a "children's clinic".

SUMMARY: This Lighthouse is known as the Lighthouse of Presidents. The lighthouse was visited by presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Millard Fillmore. The light house is 26 feet high, sits along the Potomac River, 14 miles from the Chesapeake Bay, and was built in 1836. At one time Maryland had 44 lighthouses on the Chesapeake Bay. There are only 25 still standing today.

SUMMARY: The Hebron Ghost Lights have been seen for hundreds of years. Hebron is a very small town. People driving down the long country road have reported seeing ghostly light head right at them. The lights appear yellow and then the color changes to red. People will often stop and watch the ghostly light pass: there is no car, no sound.

SUMMARY: Local legend holds that sitting once on the stone couch causes "a scratch;" sitting twice causes light bleeding, and sitting three times results in the ultimate penalty. Regardless of one, two or three sits, bad luck reportedly continues to haunt those who have alighted on this couch.

SUMMARY: This structure was the successor to the Ford's Theatre facility. Opened in 1887, it was designed and built by John Shaw Billings to house the Army Medical Museum, the Library of the Surgeon General's Office, and some of the medical records. Between 1893 and 1910, it also housed the Army Medical School.

SUMMARY: Deep in the woods, within the Dickerson Conservation Park, under the shadow of the smokestack, there is a dilapidated wooden shanty. It's run-down and apparently long-deserted, yet fresh ashes perhaps indicate something darker. I'm telling you: it was too clean. Rumor tells that the floor has a phantom blood stain that can not be removed; however, we found no evidence of any bloodstain.

SUMMARY: This college is very old, dating back to the 1700's. Of course the school has a lot of history behind it. It had been a seminary for girls in the 1800's and apparently even served as a hospital for a short time. Paranormal reports have included the spirit of a nurse's apparition wandering the halls. Also, strange lights have been seen on the premises.

SUMMARY: The sorrow of a broken heart.

SUMMARY: The college is haunted by a number of ghosts, one of which is a young woman who was murdered on campus in the 1970s. People claim that you can still hear her running and screaming on dark night.

SUMMARY: The Hotel Chamberlain is reportedly haunted by a ghostly woman. An apparition having long light brown hair has been seen in the hotel, dressed in white, and partially glowing. A catastrophic fire burned the building. Cleanup and reconstruction workers, it's said, frequently encountered the ghostly spirit of a young girl. She was seen mostly on the 7th floor. The hotel has problems with the sounds of banging noises coming from behind walls.

SUMMARY: This is a strange haunting that involves 'the sounds of cars being heard'. Reports of night-time traveler include flashing light in the nearby field; travelers who stop, it's said, can hear sounds of car doors closing and radios playing.

SUMMARY: There is a house located on Columbia Pike. The house is reportedly haunted. The woman who lives there believes she is being haunted by energy from one of her past lives. The ghost does not want to leave. People have heard footsteps, and doors open and close by themselves. Sometimes the sound of furniture being moved is heard, though no furniture is actually moved.

SUMMARY: Little is as eerie as the baleful stare of a piece of graveyard statuary, especially the ominous monolith "Grief" in DC's Rock Creek cemetery, whose illegitimate but infamous doppleganger, "Black Aggie," was once in Pikesville's Druid Ridge Cemetery near Baltimore but now haunts the Dolly Madison house near the Federal Court in DC. (Dolly Madison house was used by president James Madison & wife Dolly after White House was burned.)
