"Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it." --Thomas Sowell
4 years, 2 months, 13 days, 8 hours, 25 minutes, 7 seconds until the Mayan end of Age. December 21 2012 (11:11am GMT). The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN = 584283). The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed. However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11 UTC. --wikipedia . All the daily stuff, the things you had to do, the things someone paid you to do, blur into the nothingness of 'unimportant to your soul', and when you look back on your life you only see the dreams you made happen and the dreams you were afraid to pursue." --P.J. Gaenir's grandfather

"We foster an environment of constructive peer review, the philosophy being the more active members out there thinking, observing and collecting evidence, the more likely someone is to produce something substantial and the more we all collectively learn. Another way to look at it: Every family has an eccentric member or two; we're the place where all those folks can collectively hang out and feel at home."
BRIEF: An old mill; a skull crushed in heavy machinery; Indian and settler burial grounds... SUMMARY: Eden Mill, dating from 1805, has over 200 years of history captured inside its four stories. It is a remarkable location. The interior --absolutely packed with authentic, original machinery, equipment and literally thousands of gizmos-- is maintained as a living museum by Harford County and is set up with working exhibits and an overwhelming amount of information, including original pictures, very detailed descriptions, and period gear. There's also an entire "nature center" with all sorts of flora and fauna. BRIEF: Ghost from second-floor suicide remains SUMMARY: Ever since an employee committed suicide on the second floor, janitors and watchmen have reported oddness with the elevator, especially on certain days. Room 10 is haunted by a short, balding man who is "fond of the ladies" in that his apparition seems to only appear to single unmarried women, often "trying to climb into bed" with them. When the woman guest inevitably startles, he is said to promptly disappear through a wall.
Room 8 is reportedly frequented by a much scarier ghost, a headless Confederate soldier, who sometimes marches at the foot of the bed or else looms nearby. Many of those who have reported paranormal activity have stated that this ghost moans as if in pain. A few guests say they have actually touched his wool coat. He too will disappear quickly if startled. BRIEF: An old house with many uses carries a presence SUMMARY: The William W. Early house is an elegant high-style frame dwelling in the Queen Anne style. It was built at the end of the Victorian period, by a successful and prominent businessman, in a conscious attempt to utilize the best features of a style which was already on the decline. The house resembles several plans available through mail-order pattern books in the 1890's, but the exact pattern has not been identified. In any case, the house is one of the best examples of its type in Prince George's County.
